ABBA's contribution to the genre of pop/rock music in great, indeed. While so many others have come and then gone just as quickly, ABBA's music is still going strong. They are almost as popular today as they were 30 years ago. The theory behind their success is the quality of the songs themselves. They are ageless and they appeal to a wide range of music lovers globally. Not many artists can claim this.

"Thank You For the Music" was part of a four-song mini rock opera (called "The Girl With the Golden Hair") that ABBA performed during their 1977 tour of Europe and Australia. The song appears on ABBA: The Album (1977), but it was not released as an "A" side single in most countries until 1983. It was released throughout Europe to promote the compilation album, also called Thank You for the Music, peaking at #33 in the UK in 1983. But it was earlier released as a single in Spanish, reaching #4 in Argentina in 1980. Even earlier, in 1978 it was the B side of the single "Eagle" in many countries and in fact charted in South Africa reaching #2.

Super Trouper was from ABBA's seventh studio album and was released in 1980.

All four principal members of ABBA sang, although the women, Agnetha Fältskog (blond) and Anni-Frid Lyngstad usually sang lead. Bjorn sang lead on several songs, including Does Your Mother Know and Rock Me. Benny sang lead on only one ABBA song.

ABBA staged four major international tours:

November 1974 - January 1975: Europe (18 concerts in Denmark, Germany, Austria, Scandinavia)

January - March 1977: 28 concerts in Australia, UK and Europe (Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Scandinavia)

September - November 1979: 41 concerts in the US, Canada, UK, Western Europe

March 1980: 11 concerts in Japan

Agnetha Faltskog lives on one of the small islands southwest of Stockholm, Sweden. She has created a beautiful compound on this island named Ekero. So. technically she lives in Ekero, Sweden.

I believe her home is in London but that could change at any time.

They all have children and grandchildren together so yes.

Yes they do, there was an article in one of my music magazines recently, Benny and Bjorn still work together, and are still in contact with the women.

Anni-Frid Lyngstad was born in Norway but moved to Sweden when she was an infant. The other three principal Abba members, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog, were all born in Sweden. All four lived and recorded in Stockholm throughout Abba's years of success, 1972-1982.

In total ABBA have sold more than 360 million records, their single "Fernando" was their best selling 21 million, where as their compilation album "ABBA: GOLD" sold over 23 million copies. So along with their other albums, Super Trouper, Arrival, ABBA, The Visitors etc it brings it to 360 million.

"Dancing Queen" was the only ABBA song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100, in 1977. But two other songs, "Fernando" and "The Winner Takes it All" reached the top on the Adult Contemporary chart. And a "Super Trouper" mix with "On and On and On" reached number one on Billboard's dance and disco chart.

The group had several hits in their own country (Sweden) before they were internationally known. People Need Love and Ring Ring are two of their earliest hits. Outside Sweden their first really big hit was in 1974-75 with Waterloo.

All four members of ABBA are rich enough to turn down $1 billion for a one-time 27 city world tour. Once you have that much money it looses importance.

Benny Andersson started dating Anni-Frid (Frida) Lyngstad in 1969. they moved in together in 1971 and married in 1978. They divorced in 1981.

Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog also started dating in 1969. They married in 1971 in a huge celebrity wedding (both were huge stars in Sweden before ABBA) but separated in 1978 and finally divorced in 1980.

The two women (Agnetha and Ani-Frid) were for the most part just responsible for vocals. Bjorn Ulvaeus played guitar and vocals while Benny Andersson played keyboards and vocals. The two men were the powerhouse behind the songs though. Most of their material was a collabertion of Ulvaeus and Andersson.

Take a Chance on Me is obviously their best known worldwide smash from the late 70's

ABBA made their last public performance on 11 December 1982, on the British TV show The Late, Late Breakfast Show. The band was actually in Sweden and appeared through a live link from a TV studio in Stockholm.

Well, Abba is probably one of the two most famous bands ever. It would be hard to argue that the Beatles are not the best-known band in history and they are, by almost all accounts, head-and-shoulders above anyone else in sales. That said, Abba is unique in the scope of its world-wide success and for the fact that they have sold close to 400,000,000 records with only middling success in the U.S. There are many better known and better-selling bands in North America, but they do not boast the global reach of Abba's sales success.
