Tylenol actually has many many side effects including drowsiness, paradoxical insomnia, itching, and many others. Due to aggressive marketing and lawsuits, you cannot get an actual list in any of the normal places (drugs.com, wikipedia, rxlist.com, webmd)
How much acetaminophen do you need to take for it to show up in blood tests?
acetaminophen will not show up in blood test Intel you take over 6 grams for more then 3 week's unless you take a large some at one time like over 30+ tabs. they say not to take more then 6 tabs daily 3g. I say no more the 6 grams in any given day, if you take allot of narcotics like norco have your doctor wright for the less amount of acetaminophen "Norco 10/325" "Percocet 10/325"

it is combined with oxycodone in Percocet, Tylenol with Codeine (Number's 1-4) and with hydrocodone which is Vicodin or Norco.
Are off brand otc medicines really the same as brand name?
They have to be by law. Any difference in dosage makes the drug non-compliant and it should be called by a different name. It should not have, "Compare to..." if the ingredients are not identical.
Why does acetaminophen ask you to eat before taking it and other drugs work better if you don't eat?
It is not necessary to eat before taking acetaminophen. Unlike aspirin and Motrin or Aleve, which can cause stomach upset, Tylenol will does not cause gastritis and will rarely cause nausea. Out of concern for the fullest protection from liability, many manufacturers place unnecessary or irrelevant warnings like this on many OTC products. I would usually advise people to heed such well-intentioned cautions, just not in this specific case. As to the second part, some drugs work better on an empty stomach because of two reasons: - some dietary components combine with drugs (like tetracycline and calcium in dairy products) to physically prevent their being absorbed, and - some drugs work better in a low pH (acidic) environment that exists when there is no food in the stomach; as eating food will actually decrease the acidity in the stomach due to foods' buffering ability

Can you take two 8 hour Tylenol for back pain?
Yes. What I use when I don't feel like using Percocet (or 3) is Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid-Release Gel Tabs. They work fast (within 30 minutes) and are great for back pain. The other OTC med I use is Bayer Back & Body Aspirin. Since I use a LOT of Percocet (120/150 Percocet 10/325's per month for the past 9 years) I don't use Tylenol as much since Percocet is a combination of Tylenol and Oxycodone. However, both of the above OTC meds are strong enough to deal with any breakthrough pain I don't feel the need for using Percocet for. I typically will take 2, and that's the recommended dosage anyway.
Others I've recommended the Rapid Release tabs to have told me that they have gotten good results as well. It works fast and last 8 hours.
If you read my Supervisor bio toward the bottom, you can get an idea for how bad my back / spine is and the level of opiates that I use. I only use Percocet for breakthrough pain - I have much stronger meds for my primary pain. It may give you some insight as to how effective the 2 meds I mentioned above are for me.
yes it is lethal! DO YOU WANT TO DIE??
I would seek medical advise from a doctor, at least then you will have a proper diagnosis on whether you have done any damage to yourself.
What harm can taking 10 500 mg acetaminophen 5 mg hydrocodone 6 times a day do to a young woman?
I' m thinking this must be a prank question. As a nurse we are instructed to tell our patients to limit acetaminophen to 4 grams/day due to it's toxicity to the liver. If someone is taking 10 vicodin at a time they would have exceeded the maximum in just a single dose, with 10 vicodin each containing 500 mg acetaminophen yielding, 5000 mg which is equal to 5 grams. This person should be on there way to the ED
Is ingesting 1625 mg of acetaminophen in a short period of time dangerous and should I see a doctor?
The max amount of acetaminophen you can use in one day is 4000mg or 4g. Taking 4000mg/day for several days can start to become harmful to your liver.
What happens when you mix oxycodone and acetaminophen?
You are increasing your chances of permanent liver damage by mixing those two drugs.

Can Tylenol cause bleeding in someone with diverticular bleeding problems?
Tylenol is NOT an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory). NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin® IB), and naproxen sodium (Aleve®), as well as traditional prescription NSAIDs (such as indomethalin, ibuprofen, etc.) and COX-2 inhibitors, like Celebrex®. This information can be found on the manufacturers' pages. Tylenol is known as acetaminophen - Tylenol is an antipyretic (anti-fever) and analgesic (for pain). In patients with diverticular disease or other bleeding/coagulopathic problems, paracetamol or Tylenol are the preferred medications for pain control. These medications pose a smaller bleeding risk than NSAIDs. NSAIDs like those listed above should be strictly avoided. According to a study by Aldoori et al. (1998), with a large sample size, acetaminophen can increase relative bleeding risk in patients with diverticular disease (compared to non-users), however, study results fall into very wide confidence intervals and overlap, which does not support elimination of acetaminophen as a pain control method for persons suffering from diverticulitis. The final verdict? If you are experiencing diverticular pain, you can take Tylenol. However, more importantly, you should see your doctor for evaluation because pain can be an indicator of more severe underlying problems.
Well first the reason that the doctor told you not to take Tylenol is because the Tylenol thins the blood, causing the blood to clot less. If your blood clots less then you could lose large amount of blood when you get a cut or scrape. The reason for this is because when you get a cut or scrape and start bleeding the blood starts clotting at the surface creating a scab, which stops the bleeding. If the blood does not clot and create a scab then the wound will just keep bleeding until taken care of properly. Now depending on how long you have been taking a Tylenol pm every night depends on how long you need to let your heart recycle the blood and produce more platelets, which helps the blood to clot. I would say how ever many days in a row you have been taking a Tylenol, you should stop and give yourself the exact amount of days before you have the blood work done.
Should paracetamol be given to a head injured patient?
No drugs of any sort should be given to a patient who has received a serious injury without prior medical advice.
It is vitally important that doctors and other medical personnel can work with the actual symptoms in order to make the best possible assessment of the patient's condition. If drugs are given to deal with pain they can mask symptoms that may have been indications of something far more serious. If this happens it can delay treatment and could, in the worst case scenario, cost lives.
Never give any medication if you are unsure about it and never give any medication when there has been a serious injury, especially a head injury.
If you are based in the UK call NHS Direct on 08 45 46 47 or visit their website for an online assessment. http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/
Most head injuries should be checked out by trained medical personnel. In the UK this is free and you won't need to phone ahead. In the US you will have to check with your insurance provider but will get free emergency care at certain hospitals.
You just had your wisdom teeth pulled today. Is it okay to take Tylenol Pm?

Why is 2-butanone used with acetaminophen?
2-Butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), is a colorless liquid with a sweet, but sharp odor. 2-Butanone is manufactured in large amounts for use in paints, glues, and other finishes because it rapidly evaporates and will dissolve many substances. It will quickly evaporate into the air. 2-Butanone is often found dissolved in water or as a gas in the air. 2-Butanone is also a natural product made by some trees and is found in some fruits and vegetables. The exhausts of cars and trucks release 2-butanone into the air. 2-Butanone is usually found in the air, water, and soil of landfills and hazardous waste sites.
