There were several groups did not share in the prosperity of the 1920s. One of those groups were sharecroppers of the deep South. They were still poverty stricken.

Friday 2nd July , 1937 was the last contact from Earhart before se disappeared. One of her last messages sent by Earhart at 12:30pm said that fuel for the plane was runing low, so it is assumed that the crash occurred before July 3rd.

She was one of the best-known women pilots, at a time when flying was still relatively knew (in the 1920s and 1930s). She became famous for flying solo across the Atlantic ocean-- the first woman to ever accomplish this. She also set many records for flight, and proved to a skeptical world that women were capable aviators.

I suppose you might think of her in that way, but she was the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo (alone). This happened in the relatively early days of flying. I'm sure that she would have considered all the risks, and would have ensured that she rated highly as a pilot, as well as ensuring that her aircraft was prepared to the highest standards of those days. She was an explorer, and a very brave woman.

During World War 2 many aeroplanes, including fighters and bombers, were piloted across that ocean by single women pilots. Of course their aeroplanes were far more advanced but they too were "risk takers".

Amelia named many of her aircraft. The first was 'Canary' , a bright yellow Kinner Airster in which she made many flights. Her most well known plane was a red Lockheed Vega 5, which she called "the little red bus". This was the same type of aircraft flown by the famous Wiley Post ( who had flown it around the world ) . Amelia's final aircraft was the Lockheed Electra 10E which she called 'the Flying Laboratory'. This was actually owned by Purdue University for whom Amelia worked at that time.

Amelia never had an aircraft called 'Friendship'. -You may be thinking of her 1928 flight across the Atlantic in a Fokker Friendship flown by Wilmer Stultz. This was NOT Amelia's aircraft and as far as I know it did not have a name.

During her flying career, she mostly flew alone; and all her records, set between 1928 and 1937, were set while flying alone. In her last flight, she flew not alone but with navigator Fred Noonan. They flew until Amelia had lost signal went and called for help while piloting the plane. They they went missing and their are many theories to what happened to them - one of which is they were captured by the Japanese.

Amelia Earhart was one awesome Lady, her birth & presumably death are 1987-to 1937. Her sister, Muriel Morrissey, wrote the book: " Amelia, My courageous Sister ". It is worth reading. I don't believe Amelia was anything more than a woman who loved to fly and challenge herself. She had an insatiable appetite for flying. A few hrs before she was scheduled to land at Howland Island, she reported to be flying into a storm. She had no idea of the extent of the said storm, and she was never heard from again.

Wish her story would have ended up differently, to finish the flight that would of been shouted around the world, because of her efforts, and diligence. She has fascinated me for yrs., and many other's. Lots of rumor's, what if's, etc., were of course talked about, after her disappearance. But we will never know-what really happened to her. I just hope she died--the death of a hero--in her mind, and one which other's will look up to/forever.

The last radio transmission from Amelia Earhart was at 8:45am on 3rd July 1937 at an abandoned island; the search was called off on 19th July when the US Navy pronounced her 'lost at sea'.
