Yes, but their wealth is based not on how much money they earn, but on how much money they keep. They do not buy things that are not needed, such as electrical gadgets, electronic gizmos, cars, insurance, etc. The money is saved for the purchase of farm land or to start an Amish business. So while the average non-Amish becomes a slave to the debt master and the task master, the average Amish owns land and/or a business and their only master is God.

Because it looks nice and not all of them do.

Amish dining room chairs can be bought right from the Amish! The Amish usually have shops that they sell their own hand made furniture. Many times these shops are located near Amish communities.

If an Amish man has a beard that means he is married. Once they become married the need to grow a beard.

Answer2: The Amish are descendants of a group of 17th-century Anabaptists. Their name derives from their leader, Jacob Amman, who lived in Switzerland. From their study of the Bible back then, these God-fearing people recognized that infant baptism and military service were wrong. Because of their stand, the government persecuted them. A few even paid for their religious conviction with their lives. Persecution continued to increase, and a number of them were forced to flee to other parts of Switzerland and to France. By the middle of the 19th century, thousands had fled to the United States. With them, they brought their culture and the Swiss German dialect.

The Amish don't worship in a church building because they don't believe they have to. They believe that God can be worshipped anywhere and consider part of worship, their daily lives.

The short answer is "Yes" an outsider can join the Amish church. Most people that have grown up with modern conveniences find that they cannot make the transition to the lifestyle that the Amish live. Giving up electricity, cars, and other modern conveniences proves to be to difficult for most. Also, you must be able to put in the time and live among the Amish to prove that lifestyle has been changed and that the person life is ready to make the dedication to the Bible that is needed.

No US president has been Amish. I do not know about their church government, but if they elect presidents., they must have had more than one by now.
