^exactly^ i wouldnt shoot a squirrel with a 270, i'd shoot it with a 17 or 22. and i wouldn't shoot a deer with a 17 or a 22. there are many sizes of calibers for many purposes. majority of the types of animals are all shot w/ different calibers... you can shoot a white-tail with a .22-250 but i wouldnt prefer it while hunting elk. The larger the bullet means the more grainage it has, meaning more impact and more damage done. you can shoot a squirrel with a .25-06 but there wouldnt be any true purpose because he'd explode, thus meaning no meat.

Depends to some degree on the gun that fires it, and the powder/ bullet loaded into that cartridge. In the case of the M16A2, it can reach a maximum range of about 3,600 meters. Please note that is NOT the EFFECTIVE range- it is simply the furthest distance it will travel at ordinary temperature, humidity, and air pressure- on a relatively level surface,

What is the difference in stopping power between a .38 caliber and a 9MM bullet?
It's very difficult to give a definitive answer, because different cartridges have different specifications, and you will see different performance depending on the barrel length of the gun the bullet is fired from. One particular 9mm might be better than one particular .38, but not better than another. If you don't have other access to any type of ballistics chart, try an internet search for "handgun bullet ballistics chart" or something similar and see what you can find.

25.06 vs 243 bullet ballistics?
25.06 is the most amazing varmint hunting cartridge known to man hands down. The 243 is alright but it alot funnier to watch groundhogs blow up rather than just die....
Fixdeluxe1 Addition:
The 25.06 is just a watered down version of the Winchester/Garand 30-06 with a higher velocity and it weighs in less at 135Gr I think.
The .243 is more of a varmint, maybe goat or light deer hunting cartridge, with only sporting applications. It's heavier,at about 155Gr I believe. It's also alot more accurate and has a higher velocity than both the 30-06 and the 7.62x51mm NATO.
Maybe it's due to the propellant used in the manufacturing process?

Why does a bullet ricochet sometimes when you shoot on a metal object with a gun and not always?
Lots of factors need to be taken into account:
* What angle does the bullet strike the object? * What is the mass of the object? If small it will move and absorb the energy. * What is the bullet made of? Does the deformation absorb the energy? * Is the object firmly fixed or movable? * How fast is the bullet moving?
