How much amoxicillin should a child take?
This is a potent antibiotic, and therefore should be given only when prescribed by a doctor. The normal dosage for children is 10 - 20 mg per pound of body weight, but it is to be divided into three doses a day. Also, do not give with fruit juice or carbonated beverages because the acid in these beverages can destroy the drug. It is advisable however, to give with a small amount of food to prevent stomach upset. Most importantly though, keep in mind amoxicillin is a penicillin drug, and if your child has never taken any of the penicillin drugs, s/he needs to be monitored very closely after taking this med to be sure there are no allergic reactions, which can be fatal if not treated in time. Some of the signs to to watch for are rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, tongue and throat. If you see ANY of these signs, call 911 or take your child to the nearest emergency room immediately.
How long should an adult take amoxicillin?
As an ex pharmacy tech...amoxicillin is one of the fast movers in the pharmacy it's quite difficult to check it's shelf life but we normally try to keep anti bi for up to one year , 2 years for the most but if it's mixed 10 days ..and it should be on the shelf THROW OUT your amoxicillin! For two reasons: ALL antibiotics should be taken until the bottle is empty. If there are some left over, whoever took it 4 years ago, didn't finish it, which can mess up your immune system. PLUS, if you take it now even if it were good, you won't get the full dose. AND it's NOT good! P.S. To dispose of old pills, DO NOT FLUSH THEM or just throw them out: check with your municipality about local medication disposal so you can keep the chemicals out of the general water supply and/or food chain. Many recycling centers have dedicated collection days. Shelf life is generally one year.D Studies show that expired drugs may lose some of their potency over time, from as little as 5% or less to 50% or more (though usually much less than the latter). Even 10 years after the "expiration date," most drugs have a good deal of their original potency. If your life does not depend on an expired drug - such as that for headache, hay fever, or menstrual cramps - take it and see what happens. One of the largest studies ever conducted that supports the above points about "expired drug" labeling was done by the U.S. military 15 years ago, according to a feature story in the Wall Street Journal (March 29, 2000), reported by Laurie P. Cohen. Here are a couple of resources as well: https://www.health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml http://www.baliadvertiser.biz/articles/paradise/2006/expired_drugs.html

Amoxicillin may be able to treat uncomplicated cases of bronchitis, but frequent use and increased bacterial resistance in the population has made this antibiotic less useful today. Especially where the individual has had recurrent bronchitis, it would be necessary to obtain a sputum sample of mucus from the lungs in order to be able to do a culture and sensitivity which allows us to determine the specific antibiotics to which the bacteria are susceptible in your own case.

How much amoxicillin can a 6.5 pound dog take?
You should not be treating your dog with antibiotics without a prescription from a vet (in which case you would know the dosage to use). Indiscriminate and amateur use of antibiotics results in antibiotic resistance building up in bacteria and this means that antibiotics become ineffective for human use too. One day when you are ill you may need an antibiotic but it may not work because of what you are doing with your dog.

If the toothache is cause by infection, then it should help the infection, since this is a member of the penicillin antibiotics, and is a broad spectrum antibiotic. But it will not help the actual pain. For that, you'll need to take aspirin, Tylenol, or a pain medication prescribed by your dentist.
Will amoxicillin 500 mg help cure bacterial vaginal infection?
Theoretically, any antibiotic can cause a yeast infection. Antibiotics assist the body in eliminating infections caused by bacteria (not viruses or funguses i.e. yeast). The vagina is normally full of bacteria. These bacteria live in harmony with each other and are normally harmless. Their presence keeps other bacteria or fungus from running rampant. When a woman takes an antibiotic for an infection elsewhere in the body the antibiotic affects all bacteria in that woman. Due to this affect the vaginal balance of bacteria is lowered, thus allowing for yeast to over grow. This overgrowth is called a yeast infection. The yeast infection can be cured by returning the vaginal environment back to its "normal" state. To cure this you must take an antifungal agent by mouth, vaginal suppository or cream. Some feel that eating 6-8 oz of yogurt daily while taking antibiotic therapy may help to reduce the potential for these type of opportunistic infections to occur.

Amoxicillin dosage must be advised by a veterinarian according to the age, weight and problem of the dog.
What is the recommended dose of amoxicillin for an adult with an ear infection?
You should take a child to the doctor if you suspect they have any kind of infection - different antibiotics treat different types of infections and what you believe to be an ear infection could be an entirely different infection that may be causing their ear to hurt - then you would be giving the child amoxicillin unnecessarily which could cause him to develop an immunity to that antibiotic and he will need a stronger antibiotic in the future for an infection that could have been treated with amoxicillin. And if he does have an ear infection for real, the doctor will know exactly what dose and strength is needed since there are also many different strengths of that antibiotic.

Can you take amoxicillin and tetracycline at the same time?
swedishcovenant .org says that they will interact with eachother.
But umm.edu says that they are okay when admixed?? Whatever that means.
Metronidazole (Flagyl) and Penicillin, Tetracycline or other antibiotics are frequently prescribed together for Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. Expect GI side effects, but from personal experience SIBO can be so terrible (like Crohn's) that there is psychological relief in knowing the drug side effects mean the regime is working. Intestinal infections such as SIBO are not permanently curable, but treatable with this combination of drugs (designed to treat both aerobic and anaerobic bacteria), and will need to be repeated when symptoms reappear. Yogurt or probiotic supplements help restore normal gastrointestinal flora and are essential when taking this combination, as it will kill off the "good bugs" too. Hope this helps, and good luck to you!

Is liquid amoxicillin still good 1 month after expiration date?
One month after it's expiration date means that the drug no longer is as strong as it was before. It slowly degrades over time and once approximately 20% has degraded it is considered expired. There is probably 70% efficacy left in the product, but it is best not to use as the degraded 30% could potentially cause harm although most likely not.
