  1. Guru Amardas ji thought of building a town on this place. For someone, they bought land from the zamindars of Thung village and the responsibility of establishing a town was placed on Guru Ram Das, Guru Ram Das was not on the throne at that time. 1 tank was dug at this place by Guru Ramdas ji, the named of that holy tank kept from name of Guru Amar Das ji, the name of that holy tank is Amrit Sarovar and the people of 52 regions were gathered and a town was built around the lake, which was named Ramdas Pura.
  2. When Guru Ramdas started digging the lake, the lake was raw. After lighting his candle, Guru Arjan Dev ji came to take care of this service. He fixed the tank on which Guru Amardas ji used to sing hymns and Guru Ramdas ji used to give sermons to the congregation, at that place Arjan Dev ji built the building of Shri Harminder Sahib! Harminder Sahib means Temple of Hari, House of God. The entire map of the building of Harminder Sahib was prepared by Guru Arjan Dev ji with his own hands and its service was handed over to Baba Budha ji and its foundation was laid by Muslim fakir Sai Mian Mir ji. The four doors of Harminder Sahib mean that people of any caste and religion can come to the Gurudwara without any discrimination!! One way to go means that there is only one way to reach God. This bridge from Darshini Deori to Sachkhand has been built with the flour of Mah di dal, which was ground with a hand-operated mill at that time. Inside this bridge, there are small rooms, inside of which the Guru Granth Sahib is lit, and the Bhog of Shri Akhand Path Sahib is found. The height of Shri Harmandar Sahib Ji was kept lower than the height of the city. When Baba Budha Sahib Ji asked about this, Guru Sahib said that God is found only by those who live lowly. The Harmandir Sahib became a central hub for Sikh religious and cultural activities, welcoming people from all walks of life.

How does the Amritsar Massacre show British in a good light?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

On 10 April 1919 in Amritsar, the holy city of the Sikhs (see sikh-wars), rioting broke out following the arrest of nationalist leaders by British authorities. Some Europeans were killed, British women attacked, and British commercial interests burned. On 13 April, 20, 000 protesters crammed into the Jallianwala Bagh, an enclosed square. The local British commander, Brig Gen Reginald Dyer, arrived with a company of troops. He gave the order to open fire. In a matter of minutes, 1, 650 bullets were fired into the crowd, killing 397, including women and children, and wounding 1, 500. In 1920, an official inquiry condemned the massacre and Dyer was forced to retire. He nevertheless enjoyed some public support in Britain and remained convinced that he had carried out his duty, arguing that he had neither panicked nor overreacted, but taken deliberately firm action to suppress a potentially explosive situation.

What happend in 1919 which changed millions of Indians from loyal british subjects into nationalists?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The so-called Massacre of Amritsar of April 13 of that year in which British troops opened fire on a crowd of 10,000 unarmed Indian protesters, killing almost 400 and wounding another 1,200. The massacre was followed up by the proclamation of martial law and a wave of arrests and public floggings of people found guilty of transgression of the rules under martial law.

The British general responsible for both the massacre and the martial law proclamation was finally recalled to Britain but never punished, which in the eyes of many Indians was adding insult to injury.
