There are many ways to get dreadlocks, i will explain some of them. After the dreads are made, you can choose to use beeswax or not. Beeswax will make then stay better together, especially in the first couple of months.
3. Braids can turn into dreadlocks if you leave them in your hair for a very long time. It will take a very long time though, and there are chances that they never really completely look like dreadlocks.
4. Just leave your hair without brushing it. You can wash it, but don't use conditionner. This method works especially well for people with really tangly hair, frizzy hair, black people's hair... You will need to take care of separating your hair into different sections so that you don't end up with only one giant dreadlock. Sea salt really helps too, so if you live close to the ocean you should go swim a lot and dry in the sun.
5. Go to the salon and let professionnals take care of making your dreadlocks. It mmay be really expensive but your dreadlocks will look really professionnaly made, which is quite an advantage if you have a job with the public.
6. Find someone semi-professionnal who makes dreadlocks in your city. You can look in the classifieds on craigslist.com. A common way dreads are formed are by sectioning hair of any texture and twisting it round and round from the scalp to the ends using a setting gel or lotion. It can also be latched like a crocheted sweater to for individual locks. Locks take 6 months to 2 years to permanently lock. They can also more immediately be created by doing extensions with kinky hair or yarn. This takes hours to do but hair can more easily and readily be styled and shampooed without the threat of unraveling.
