the olympic games began when Heracles built the Olympic Stadium to honor Zues, his father.
Although the ancient Games were staged in Olympia, Greece, from 776 BC through 393 AD, it took 1503 years for the Olympics to return. The first modern Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The man responsible for its rebirth was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who presented the idea in 1894
A celebration to the god Zeus.
Pelops is credited with founding the Olympic games. They were started to honor the Gods of Olympus. While associated with religion, the events were secular and intended to create good relations among the Greek cities.
The first ancient "Olympics", athletic contests held between different Greek city-states and sometimes athletes from other cultures, took place for two reasons, in particular. First, the Greeks were highly competitive and, thus, sought opportunities to engage each other in contests that would bring glory to individuals and whole societies. Second, the Greeks were a very religious people, and the presentation of athletic competitions were considered to be favorable to their gods as well as a kind of reverence for the same.
Ancient Olympic track events included the stade race - an ancient version of a sprint - where participants ran from one end of the track to the other (approximately 200 meters). There was also a two-stade race (approximately 400 meters), as well as a long-distance run (ranging from seven to 24 stades).
In Comparison, modern Olympics track and field events include:
The Christain emperor Theodosisus I banned the games by proclaiming them to be a pagan ritual.
The modern Olympic Games was initiated by Pierre de Coubertin, who was from France. In 1894, he set up the IOC or International Olympic Committee in Paris. The first summer Olympic games was held in 1896 while the winter Olympic games was held in 1924.
Because the woman were never treated as highly as men. They were in the kitchen and taking care of the house. Not usually seen in an Olympic game. Also, all the men were naked....:)
Every modern Olympic Games has been run in metres, the first was in 1896.
Depends on each sport.
Drastically depends on the sport. many athletes have been training for the same event for 5+ years. Each year builds on the foundation of training from previous years.
Most elite athletes train in "macrocylces" with the cycles designed to lead to peak peformance on the date of their event. A macrocycle begins with a "base strength" phase, where the muscles are strengthened and a cardio base is built. Then it gets progressively more specific including speed training or whatever the event requires. Intensity increases while quantitiy is reduced to prevent fatigue/injury. If the cycle is successful it will result in peak performance on or about the week of the event. Its actually very scientific at the elite level, with coaches who have studied human physiology and usually having a doctorate in the field. Its much much more complicated and scientific than "just train and train hard and eat nutritious".
Actually during the current time period most athletes are in the "tapering" phase that will lead to maximum strength for their event. A taper is designed to allow full recovery and training effect from the previous bouts of intense, sport specific training in the last phase of the macrocycle. There are also microcyles, and mesocylcles within a training regimen. type training macrocylcles in Google and you will see it is really over our heads unless we are a sports physiologist.
Here is the basic format of a 10-month macrocycle:
* Phase 1 - General development of strength, mobility, endurance and basic technique
* Phase 2 - Development of specific fitness and advanced technical skills
* Phase 3 - Competition experience - achievement of indoor objectives
* Phase 4 - Adjustment of technical model, preparation for the main competition
* Phase 5 - Competition (Olympics)
* Phase 6 - Active recovery - planning preparation for next season
ancient Greece
The Olympics are every 2 years. But there Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics which are four years apart. The last Summer Olympics were in 2008 and the next on is July 27, 2012 which makes it 4 years for each season.
The Greeks are the ones who stared the olympic games to worship their gods and godesses.
According to the site below, the exact date is unknown. The emperor Theodosius I legally abolished the games in 393 or 394 A.D.

They were granted with large sums of money and would be made a statue of themselves. Poets would sing odes in their praise. :))
They were discontinued by the Romans as the games were dedicated to Greek gods, but the Romans wanted them to dedicate them to their Gods. The Greeks disagreed and so the Olympics were discontinued
The cheaters would be fined heavily and the money received from those fines would be used to create statues of gods and champion athletes that were placed at the stadium where the Olympics were held.

Never.
There where 3 main criteria for participation in the games:
Although women were not allowed in the Olympic Games, they still practised sport. At Olympia (back then it was called Olympia not Olympics, young girls had there own games, the Heraia, in honour of the goddess Hera, the wife of Zeus. These competitions were held every four years and consisted of running races only.
The person who invented the toliet was Thomas Crapper it was invented in September of 1883. Crapper's name is sometimes associated with the words crap and crapper although the first recorded use of word crap dates to before Crapper's career and the first use of the word crapper was long after the end of his career and its derivation could be from the word crap, or from Crapper or both. And crap is now said as a bad word!!!!!!!!!!!!!
