How do you deal with a partner who has anxiety?

Well this is not a very specific question so I will fill in the blanks with my own life experience. I dated for a period of 2 years a woman who suffered from ADHD and OCD. She cycled between fair to good, to major meltdown every few days. I didn't want to be with her anymore, but I felt guilty about leaving. I stayed much longer than I wanted to. What I learned is that she didn't want to improve. She wanted to use her condition as an excuse to fail and as a reason to keep me in her life out of guilt.

Only you are an expert on your own relationship, but staying in a bad relationship with a person with mental heath problems only harms you. It does nothing to help them unless they wish to get better and are willing to help themselves. If I had it to do over again I would have left much sooner.

Why do people feel things that aren't there like feeling things you can't see or hear?

think everyone gets that. It's usually your hair fibres of clothes brushing against your skin and you think perhaps it's a bug. It's a natural thing because, if you were in the jungle or something and there was a high chance that a dangerous bug could be crawling up your leg, it would be important that you remove it.

Here is a list of psychotic disorders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychosis#P… I don't think you have any of these because, in your example, you looked to your skin and you didn't see anything. If you were psychotic you would see the bugs crawling up you even if they weren't there.

You could be highly anxious and just feel agitated which heightens your senses to thinks like this, but I really don't think it's anything more than that.

What is hypermania?

It is a severe form of mania; most often diagnosed by a psychologist or psychiatrist. It falls into the "major depressive" category like bipolar disease but rarely if ever is there a low. The symptoms under which my diagnosis was determined were An overwhelming feeling of happiness or elation without cause, very active while needing little sleep, hard to fall asleep due to the mind working overtime while it should be at rest, lack of coping skills or just not coping at all with anything that would upset the patient, sporadic behavior i.e. taking off on an unplanned road trip to see a sunrise 1100 miles away because it sounded like a good idea, shopping sprees etc. There are therapists that will advise medication if the condition is severe, but most often no medication is needed. Personally, I have not needed them because I see the long term consequences of my actions, but many others do not. The questionable behavior has most often been cause for concern because others find it irrational.

What are 'pangs of anxiety'?

In a normal person, "Anxiety" means worry or concern. If these feelings are very strong the brain my release a hormone (adrenalin) to prepare the body to do something (the imagination is a powerful thing!). This can cause momentary aching in the mussels and a churning of the stomach. These sensations are said to be "pangs of anxiety". You actually feel them!

If the person has a mental illness similar sensations may be brought on by stress in conditions where the person may have a phobia or just can not cope with life etc. In this case the "Anxiety" feelings may be stronger and the parson may feel that they cannot breath and or are having a heart attack. In this case the reaction to the emotional turmoil and anxiety etc is called a "Panic Attack".
