no..... Medusa and Poseidon were having an affair in Athena's temple and Athena got mad so she turned Medusa into a hideous creature.

Her most well known symbols are the owl and olive tree. Strangly enough, the owl is her symbol because it looks intellegent, and what better bird for the god of wisdom. The olive tree is the symbol because Athena and Poseidon fought over who got named after a city. Athena won by giving mortals an olive tree. Argo that's how Athens got its name. Medusa was once very beautiful but a man was sent out to kill her and she asked for Athena's protection but Athena refused and Athena cursed her. Medusa couldn't kill women so she was sent to a chamber (that is now hers) were no women could go. every man that ever went in there never came back out.

True, but we can not forget the Parthenon that was a temple to Athena, the patron goddess of the ancient city of Athens. By the way, the Parthenon housed a gigantic statue of Athena designed by Phidias and made out of cryselephantine and gold.

Athena became the patron goddess of Athens after a great competition with her uncle, Poseidon. Who ever could make the best thing to benefit mankind won. Poseidon struck the ground and brought forth a great spring, but the water in the spring was that of salt and was undrinkable. Athena then brought forth the olive tree, which could be used in many different ways. It gave them olive oil, olives, shade and wood. Therefore Athena was proclaimed the winner and became the patron goddess of Athens! It was also named after her.

Athena is obviously known for her skill in battle strategies, architecture, and wisdom.

Athena is her Greek name. Her Roman name is Minerva.
