Coins sold as "uncirculated" (UNC) are sold in some sort of packaging so that they cannot be damaged or handled and so, maintain their uncircluated condition and appearance. Coins that have been circulated will have small scratches on the flat surfaces, there may be some wear on the raised surfaces. The raised rim around the circumference of the coin will have little nicks and dents in it. Discolouration or darkening does not necessarily indicate that the coin has been circulated.

There are many other One Dollar coins that were minted as non-circulating legal tender (NCLT), not for general circulation.

Notes printed from 1967-1972 will have "COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA" printed at the top, front and back.

Notes printed from 1974-1991 will have only "AUSTRALIA" printed at the top, front and back.

Notes printed from 1992 onwards are made of polymer instead of paper.

Notes printed from 1992-present will have Queen Elizabeth II on the front and a Parliament House design on the back.

Notes printed in 2000 only will have Sir Henry Parkes on the front and Catherine Helen Spence on the back.

The Reserve Bank of Australia "invented" all of Australia's currency. The original paper Ten Dollar note was designed by Gordon Andrews in 1964, and first issued on the 14th of February, 1966. The current polymer Ten Dollar note was designed by Max Robinson and was first issued in November, 1993.

The old paper Australian One Hundred Dollar note was mostly grey with small flashes of blue, pink, purple and green.

The new polymer Australian One Hundred Dollar note is mostly green.

There is no mysteriously mythology behind the colouring of Australian banknotes. They are deliberately designed to be different colours to make distinguishing between the denominations easier.

No Australian coin minted for general circulation has a hole in it. The only Australian coins minted with a hole in them, were WW2 Internment Camp coins in 1941, and they have the words "Internment Camps" on them.
