The only reference I can find to a 2007 Australian 1 Dollar coin featuring a Koala is to a pure silver 1 ounce coin with a current value of about $30 AUD. It would probably be suitably packaged in a case.

An Australian $200 22 carat gold coin with a Koala on the reverse, were issued in 1980 and 1983-1986. They were a part of a series released annually from 1980 to 1994 featuring various Australian animals and themes. These were produced by the Royal Australian Mint, Canberra, and were intended as non-circulating legal tender. Uncirculated - current retail $420 AUD.

You do not specify whether your coin is gold or silver, the weight or the face value.

The Lunar series of coins are produced annually by the Royal Australian Mint in gold and silver and in a variety of weights and face values. They are issued as individual coins or as sets.

I suggest that since the coin is barely 1 year old, the value has not increased much from the original purchase price.

The only 1988 Australian Koala coin I can find a reference to, is a 0.5 ounce platinum Proof $50 coin. If there is a "shadow" digit 5 underneath the 6 in the date, it's a rarer overdate coin worth significantly more; it should be inspected by a reputable dealer.

Animals do not feature on current Australian banknotes. The only animals appearing on current Australian banknotes are some horses on the Ten and One Hundred Dollar notes, and a camel on the Twenty Dollar note. There is also a stylised Lyrebrid on the hologram of the One Hundred Dollar note.

This coin was only ever issued as part of a boxed five coin set.

50 Pence (from 1997) 27.3 mm diameter, 1.78 mm thick, weigh 8 grams and are made from 75% copper and 25% nickel, and are seven sided or heptagonal. The edge is plain.

1 Pound (from 1983) 22.5 mm diameter, 3.15 mm thick, weigh 9.5 grams and are made from 70% copper, 24.5% zinc and 5.5% nickel. The edge is milled with incuse lettering or ornamentation.

2 Pound (from 1986 -1996) 28.4 mm diameter, 3.1 mm thick, weigh 15.98 grams and are made from 70% copper, 24.5% zinc and 5.5% nickel. The edge is milled with incuse lettering. Due to them being issued as commemoratives, circulation of these coins is uncommon.

2 Pound (from 1997) 28.4 mm diameter, 2.5 mm thick, weigh 12 grams and are bimetal made from 76% copper, 20% zinc and 4% nickel in the outer ring, and the centre is 25% nickel and 75% copper. The edge is milled with incuse lettering.

5 Pound (from 1990) 38.61 mm diameter, 2.89 mm thick, weigh 28.28 grams and are made from 75% copper and 25% nickel. The edge is milled. Intended as a souvenir or collectible, but occasionally seen in circulation. These coins are now referred to as a Crown due to them being of the same dimensions as the pre-decimal Crown coin.

The following are specifications of British decimal coins which have been demonetised and are no longer legal tender. Unless they are uncirculated or Proof, they have minimal collector value.

You must be joking. Australia would not have been discovered for another 119 years in 1651.

Congratulations if you have one, but Australia was discovered in 1770 and the 50 cent coin was not introduced until 1966.

You possibly refer to the 1970 Australian 50 cent coin which commemorates the bicentenary of the discovery of Australia by Captain Cook in 1770.

These coins are potentially still in circulation so, unless they are part of a Proof or Uncirculated mint set or are individual Proof or Uncirculated coins and in absolute mint condition, they are worth 50 cents.

A 1918 Australian Penny was the same, except for the date, as all Australian pennies from 1911 to 1936.

On the Obverse was King George V with a beard, wearing robes and the crown. Around the edge of the Obverse were the words "GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT OMN: REX F.D.IND: IMP:".

Around the edge of the Reverse were the words "COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA" with the year at the bottom. There was a ring in from the edge. Inside the ring were the words "ONE PENNY" with a small scroll above and below the words.

The only other difference was any mint marks that might have been added. The 1918 Penny had an "I" under the lower scroll indicating that they were minted in the Calcutta mint in India.

All Australian pennies had the following dimensions and metal composition -

97% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin. They had a plain edge, weighed 9.45 grams and were 30.8 mm in diameter.
