You would need friction between the tires or tracks and the dirt the tractor is sitting.

If you have extended legs, you need friction between the pads and the ground.

You would want friction in the brakes.

A clutch also relies on friction.

Technically you could "dig water", but if you are trenching, then one needs friction between the dirt particles.

It is also handy to have friction in your seat, steps, and controls.

The quick answer is that you simply drain and replace it, but where exactly the drain plug is will depend on the make and model. I could probably answer this question better if I had that information.

Yes and No. Your tractor would have to be equipped with a three point hitch. Some backhoes had the option most did not.

If they only have an order of repossession of the truck, then no. Otherwise, the trailer and backhoe would be considered stolen.

If I'm not mistaken that is a Diesel Engine and think it would be a 15W-40 oil.

In many cases state regulations deem most construction equipment as exempt from ANY "License" being required to operate such equipment. However because of the nature of the jobs the equipment does, is involved with and the ability to be a dangerous tool the insurance company that insures the equipment more often than not REQUIRES that the operator prove some level of competent operation by attending and passing a training course. On the note of being more marketable to a construction company. Who would you hire first? A person with no practical knowledge of the equipment. A person who has shown they can at least operate the machine in a safe manner. OR A person who has shown they can operate the equipment as well as being able to move that equipment from the yard to work site because they also have a Commercial Driver's License of the correct type?

The rear axle oil level plug on a Ford 4500 backhoe is located about 2" above the right hand running board near the rear end of the running board. This is 5 or 6" directly behind the transmission level plug and is located on the round access cover plate. If you have a cab, the plate under the seat (4 bolts) will need to be removed in order to replace the level plug unless you can find someone with small fingers to reinstall it for you. Mine took about 23L to fill from empty.

That depends on the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings of the truck and trailer both. If the two combined make up a Gross Combination Weight Rating of more than 26,000 lbs., then a CDL is required.

You will need to be more specific as to the brand and model. However, you can drain the oil and start adding oil to it. Maybe start at 4 or 5 qts, look at the dipstick and keep adding until it is at or a little above the full mark. Then start it, let it run, shut it off, then recheck it.

I don't know the beginning year for sure, sometime in the late 70's but the last year was 1982 and in 83 the B series came out with the single bucket cylinder and different canopy/cab etc.
