Speed of a baseball thrown by a pitcher?
all objects drop at an acceleration of 9.8 m/s/s until it reaches its terminal velocity
<><>
Above is true, as far as a ball that is falling- but a baseball is pitched, and then struck by a bat, and it gets a bit more complex. The ball may have an incoming speed of about 83 mph when it crosses the plate. When struck, it will momentarily distort, and rebound (coefficent of restitution- a batted ball bends and unbends again, returning about 55.5% of the energy) That is added to the acceleration of the ball by the bat. And the type of bat can affect that speed. The upper speed limit seems to be about 122 mph for a major league player with a non-wooden bat. So in a few milliseconds, the ball changes from 83 mph in ONE direction, to as much as 122 mph in the OTHER direction. Each 1 mph increase results in another 4 feet of distance before hitting the ground.
Can a softball pitcher throw more accurate than a baseball pitcher.?
This is an interesting question. I don't know the exact answer, but i would guess that a softball pitcher could indeed be more accurate than a baseball pitcher at their respective distances. baseball pitcher's throwing mechanics are unatural for the human body as the arm comes up over the shoulder and is torqued, so they will tire a lot faster than a softball pitcher. a softball pitcher has a more natural motion as the arm stays down and the arm will not tire as quickly. this would lead me to think that they could indeed throw more accurate, but for a specific answer i would have to say it just depends on the individual.

Yes.
Most often it occured in the old days of baseball. Baseball almanac has the info:
It's true it happened more often in the old days, but you still see it occasionally, mostly when there's a left-hander on the mound. I saw it happen at Fenway Park about seven years ago. And of course Brad Ausmus did it in the 2002 World Series.

What happens when a pitcher leaves losing but the team wins?
The pitcher will have a "no decision" (neither a win nor a loss).
In the case where the pitcher leaves for a pinch hitter, and the team rallies to take the lead and hold it for the remainder of the game, that pitcher would be the winning pitcher, provided he pitched the required 5 innings.
