What you are referring to is known as an assist.

1. The ball may be thrown in any direction with one or both hands.
2. The ball may be batted in any direction with one or both hands, but never with the fist.
3. A player cannot run with the ball. The player must throw it from the spot on which he catches it, allowance to be made for a man running at good speed.
4. The ball must be held by the hands. The arms or body must not be used for holding it.
5. No shouldering, holding, pushing, striking or tripping in any way of an opponent. The first infringement of this rule by any person shall count as a foul; the second shall disqualify him until the next goal is made or, if there was evident intent to injure the person, for the whole of the game. No substitution shall be allowed.
6. A foul is striking at the ball with the fist, violations of Rules 3 and 4 and such as described in Rule 5.
7. If either side makes three consecutive fouls it shall count as a goal for the opponents (consecutive means without the opponents in the meantime making a foul).
8. A goal shall be made when the ball is thrown or batted from the grounds into the basket and stays there, providing those defending the goal do no touch or disturb the goal. If the ball rests on the edges, and the opponent moves the basket, it shall count as a goal.
9. When the ball goes out of bounds, it shall be thrown into the field and played by the first person touching it. In case of dispute the umpire shall throw it straight into the field. The thrower-in is allowed five seconds. If he holds it longer, it shall go to the opponent. If any side persists in delaying the game, the umpire shall call a foul on them.
10. The umpire shall be the judge of the men and shall note the fouls and notify the referee when three consecutive fouls have been made. He shall have power to disqualify men according to Rule 5.
11. The referee shall be judge of the ball and shall decide when the ball is in play, in bounds, to which side it belongs, and shall keep the time. He shall decide when a goal has been made and keep account of the goals, with any other duties that are usually performed by a referee.
12. The time shall be two fifteen-minute halves, with five minutes rest between.
13. The side making the most goals in that time shall be declared the winner.

The game of basketball is scored with 1,2 and 3 point shots. Players get 1 point for foul shots, 2 points for any field goal that is not beyond the 3 point line, and 3 points for shots beyond the line.

The back of the free throw line or foul line is 13 feet 9 inches from the center of the goal or basket.

The three point line was introduced because people believed a shot made at a far distance should be worth more points than a layup. Thus, the 3 point line was introduced.

The 3 point shot was introduced by the upstart ABL in 1961 (the league only survived a couple of years) and was brought back by the ABA in 1971 (along with the 30 second shot clock and the dunk) and adopted by the NBA after they merged in 1979-80. The NCAA allowed the Southeast Conference to experiment with 3-pointers in 1980-81 and the rest of the College conferences followed suit within the next two seasons.

There are offensive and defensive fouls in basketball. A defensive foul occurs when a defender makes contact with the player in possession. An offensive foul occurs when the player with the ball makes contact with a defender who's arms are inside his body. If an offensive player runs into a defensive player whose position is established (both feet are planted) or the offensive player drops his shoulder or pushes off with his arm, then the contact is deemed an offensive foul (foul against the offensive player) and is usually called a "charge." Flagrant fouls occur when one player grabs another and pulls him down, or a player is injured as a result of a hard foul. Technical fouls include defensive three-second penalties and, at the discretion of the official, when a player or coach exhibits unsportsmanlike conduct. By definition a foul is "when one player gains an illegal advantage over another through physical contact". In layman's terms, physical contact between two players is not illegal. However, if that contact creates an advantage (as in a shot was affected or a player could not move freely to another position on the court) then it is deemed a foul.

In most leagues it is 5 fouls until you are out.

However, in some tournaments they can make up whatever rules they want so any number of fouls.

But basically it is 5 fouls.

In high school it is 19 feet 9 inches, NCAA it is 20 feet 9 inches and in the NBA it is 23 feet 9 inches, as measured from the center of the goal to the out side of the arc.

In basketball the ball on a foul shot the ball must hit the rim or another player before the man throwing the ball can touch it. That is the Wilt Chamberlain rule. He would throw the ball against the backboard, catch it, and throw it in for 2 points. That is not permitted any more.

I dont think that you can pass to yourself unless you bounce it off someone else. If you pass to yourself it might be considered traveling.

A player may throw the ball off the backboard and catch it. However, the player must receive the pass while in the air and shoot or pass before he comes down. Otherwise, the call is traveling

In the NCAA, each half is 20 minutes. In the NBA, there are 4 quarters, each of which are 12 minutes, so a half is 24 minutes.

In college basketball there are halves that are 20 minutes long In high school basketball there are quarters that are 8 minutes long In NBA there are quarters that are 12 minutes long

It's just another name for the positions of the players. If a person say someone is in at 1, that means he's playing point guard. If someone says a person is in at 2, they're in at shooting guard.

3=small forward (SF)

4=power forward (PF)

5=center (C)

A two for one is used at the end of the period to ensure a team gets the last shot. In the NBA for example, if there are 40 seconds left in the period, a team (even if they have a full shot clock) will shoot/score within the first 10 seconds, the other team will then get the ball with 30 seconds on the game clock and 24 seconds on the shot clock ensuring the team that scored first, and successfully executed the 2 for 1 gets the ball back with at least 8 seconds to score another basket.

The High School 3 point line is located exactly 6 feet behind the free throw line.

NCAA adds 1 foot to that distance; in some cases, you may see the old and new line spaced 1 foot apart, and in contrasting a color, finally in the NBA the 3 point line is located 23 feet 9 inches or 4 feet directly in back of the free throw line. All of these 3 point lines radiate from the center of the goal to the out side of the arc.

some tips:

1.) center yourself on the line, most courts have a very tiny dot in the exact center of the line - look for it

2.) don't jump, it messed up your balance

3.) take time to establish a routine, you need to find a way to keep everything the same every time. this will help you make every shot if you can find what works best for you.

4.) completely ignore all distractiosn

A tip off is the opening play in a basketball game, where the referee throws up a jump ball for the 2 starting centres at centre court. The players jump in the air to tip the ball with their hands towards their teammates to gain possession of the ball.

There is no time allotment in girls basketball. They can take as much time as they want. There is a 10 second rule in boys high school and college ball. The NBA has an 8 second rule.

First, you need a new net. To get one, go to your local sporting goods store. Then, take a ladder (unless your hoop is adjusted to be short) and go to the rung where you can reach the rim. There should be 6 or 8 spots where parts of the net are connected on the rim. Just cut the old net down. Then, take each part of the net and connect each one onto the 6 or 8 spots on the rim.
