How do you store a 3 piece slate pool table?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The answer really depends on the type of table. Is it wood, mdf, or slate? If it is slate, is it the typical 3 piece or is it a single slab? Transporting non slate tables, though you should be careful, are not too big of a deal. Single slate tables are not too hard to disassemble, but can be very heavy and dangerous to move. The standard 3 piece slate table is quite a process to move. YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE TABLE APART. Take it all apart and mark each piece as you go. Move the pieces and if you are very handy put it back together. If you are not very handy, I would suggest hiring a professional for reassembly as getting three pieces of slate level and the felt firm and tight are extremely important if you want your table to work right. Make sure the slates are cushioned and under no stress at any point in the move, have lots of help, and take your time, and you should be able to get all the pieces from one place to the next.

Snooker, most would say Joe Davis, Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Who are Americas best custom pool cue makers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Popular is a subjective word. There are dozens of excellent custom pool cue makers in the US, and depending upon what someone is looking for, some are better choices than others for many reasons. So, without listing at least 25 great custom cue makers, this answer is only a starting point, and is not meant to take away from the fantastic work performed by those not mentioned.

If a fine handcrafted cue is wanted without any fancy work, Barringer Cues has been well known for decades, and also Mariposa.

If fancy work is desired, the question now goes to how long do you want to wait and how fancy - Joss, Longoni, Pechauer, Raven, Schon, among many others, can provide the work.

If true artistry is desired, the custom cue maker that works with an artist is needed - pdf Studios has been noted for this (several people worked to make the well known $50,000 Hustler cue), Richard Black is another, as is Paul Mottey.

If you want the most popular, you may mean those that have sold the most, but this certainly does not make them better or more popular. Each custom cue maker has their own approach and only a handful can most likely fulfill your needs if you have a specific project in mind.

How much clearance is required around a billiard table?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No part of the table should be closer to a wall than 56 inches or a proper stroke cannot be made. However, forcing the player to elevate the cue for some shots or providing short sticks are options when less room is available. However, both of these take away from good game play.

How to shoot pool kicking?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You choose where your going to kick the ball, then kick the ball with your laces and whatever foot you use to kick the ball with you swing the opposite arm for balance. (You also always have to be confident.) And another thing is that before you kick the ball you look at where your going to kick it and then while your kicking it you always have your eye on the ball! - All of this is for penalties not in a game situation BUT you can use some of these tactics. I really hope this is helpful :)

During the great depression, the "pool halls" were basically gambling establishments where you could place off track bets and wait to hear the ticker or runners come back with results. As part of the business, billiard tables were installed so the normal patrons would stick around and bet more. These began being referred to as pool tables.

In 8 ball can you bounce the cue ball off the 8 ball before striking object ball?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

BCA pool rules state that you may play an object ball off of the 8 ball.

BCA (Billiard Congress of America) states that the 8 ball made on the break is not a win or loss. You have a choice of rerack or spotting the 8 ball back. Every place has their own rule about that and most " house" rules call it a win.

V.N.E.A., (Valley National 8-ball League Association), (although not the governing body, in the U.S., even though it's membership is over twice as large), considers an 8 ball made on the break a win, unless, in international competition. Then the rule is the same as the BCA.

ADD: This is a good answer. To expand a bit, the governing bodies of pool in Asia, North America, Australia and Europe have all AGREED on World Standard Rules. The governing body in North America is the BCA, so of course they use these rules.

As soon as you get into league play, generally any league is BASED on these rules, but adjustments, or concessions, are made because so many of the players lack the skills and/or interest to learn properly....so the league "adjusts" rules to alleviate arguments..and in many cases because at a given league night not ONE player will actually know how to distinguish a double hit, or have a good grasp of the real rules.

The above stated rule is one such concession, but because the break is comnsidered a "fluke" shot, you may not win or lose the game as a direct result in proper rules.

One other popular concession regards the double hit. Many leagues allow a double hit if there is a chalk width between the cue ball and the object ball, but the vast majority of the players will actually be making a double hit foul in this case.

Interesting point not known by many...A legal rack in 8 ball simply consists of the 8 in the middle, and "opposites" on the back corners.
