i would say either the ruger 10/22 the marlin model 60 or the mossberg 702 plinkster. My dad has a marlin model 60 and let me say man that thing shoots unbeleivably accurate. the ruger 10/22 is not as acurate out of the box as a model 60 but you can easily change this with all the aftermarket parts and accesories.the mossberg i don't know much about but from the reviews i have read some say its pretty good while some people say it is a peice of crap. model 60 $124 at wal mart

I would go to a shooting range and look for people shooting .22 pistols and simply tell them that you're looking for a good .22 plinker pistol - what do they recommend. If you were to ask me that question, I'd advise to try as many types as you could and then offer that you shoot a couple of magazines of my .22 (a Browning Buck Mark).
I've found folks at most ranges to be quite friendly and would not mind spending some time helping you.

Talking with folks at the range is good advice. The 10/22, Marlin 60, etc are rifles, not pistols. Perhaps the most widely sold 22 pistols in the US are the Browning Buckmark, and the Ruger Mk III. Both are good pistols, good warranties, reasonable price, good accuracy. I have one Ruger I have been shooting since 1971.
