They are all from different ethnic backrounds ( firgie is white, apl is from the phillapeans, will is african-american, taboo is african-american in native american) so they all practice different religions.

Will.i.am and apl.de.ap meet at school, then invited taboo into the gang. Later, they needed a girl the sing the hook and chorus of "hey mama" , so their manager recomended firgie. After the boys heard her, they couldent let her go, so they signed her. Firgie was origanly a mamber of the group Wild Orchard.
