Interestingly the E92 has significantly less specific torque (torque per litre engine displacement) dispite being a lighter engine with a higher compression ratio. It would seem to me that the E92 M3 was held back slightly in terms of power due to the expected release of the E92 M3 CSL. A theory which is strenghened by claims of 476 BHP from a simple remap and Catalytic Convertor change.

You either have a bad fan relay which is easy to change( in the fuse box) or a bad thermo temperature sensor (screws into the radiator). Change the relay first(do it yourself) If they still run then you'll need BMW mechanics for the sensor.

I have a 89 iS E30. You have to take off the cover to the steering colum. Not sure if it is the same on the M3. I have a friend who has an M3 I'll try to ask him.
