When was the paddle wheel boat invented in China?

While evidence of the execution of these paddle wheel boats tells us that the Chinese had started implementing these boats in the 4th century AD (Song Dynasty), it is argued that these boats were invented earlier, in the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), where a dictionary-like book included the word lu (scull), explaining that the force it generated was along the ridge of the ship. Such a word would not have been created without the concept of ship building.

What its called to steer a boat?

It is called manning the helm. And no, it is not sexist. The root man ( as in woman and chairman) simply means "human being," and to man something, such as a helm, is to put a person on it.

Somebody who steers a racing shell is called a coxswain.

One name for somebody who is in charge of a boat is called a cox'n, which is a contraction of coxswain.

Steering the boat is called being at the helm. So the person steering would be called the helmsman or the quartermaster.

The navigator would be in charge of the route the vessel takes.

Depending on the size of the vessel these positions could be occupied by different people or just one.

A large ship will be steered by the quartermaster, but in general, the person who steers a boat is called a coxswain, shortened to cox'n and cox. Cox is particularly used when referring to rowing boats.

Where do you find the VIN on an old boat?

Usually on the transom - it might be a thin plate covered by layers of paint.

To be more precise, after October, 1972 vessels built in the United States were required to place 12 digit hull identification numbers (sometimes referred to as HIN) on the vessel's hull. The HIN is typically sighted on the starboard side transom of these vessels. These numbers are typically imprinted or engraved into the hull. Foriegn made vessels will typically have a hull manufactuerer number somewhere on the back quarters of the exterior hull or inside the hull. These foriegn vessels are not HIN numbers like you see in the United States but more hull numbers based on how many were produced of that model (such as "hull number 512").

Can you put antifouling paint on aluminum boat?

Ofcourse! Most motor yachts are aluminum construction ,they would not go very far without antifouling coatings . Look for a high quality non copper based coating such as Pettit Ultima ECO. Also available is vivid ,I believe that is Pettit too. Doesn't hurt and you should prep the hull with barrier coat and primers.

Who rows the underworld boat?

charon rows the boat across the river styx, but only if you pay.

I appreciate you reading Percy Jackson. It is a good series of books. But I'm afraid Rick Riordan makes up some of the facts. You don't have to pay.

Actually, you DO have to pay. The Greeks buried their dead with drachmas so they could pay Charon to go to the Underworld.
