That's pretty much spot on for what's considered the normal reference temperature. Do note that there is some room for individual differences, although usually not more than a few tenths of a degree either way.

Probably would work but would take a very long time because the difference between a meat thermometer and a normal thermometer is that the meat one is all metal versus the human variations that have mercury or some other type of liquid that is not harmful to the human body. But they are definitely not all metal like the meat thermometers. Dont see why it wouldn't work in the rectum as long as you've got alot of patience :) Good luck with that!

I think its cooler because a kitchen can be very warm due to all the electrical appliances being used included the gas and oven. Also when your in the kitchen working you tend to feel hot. Therefore the body is cooler than the air in the kitchen.

This method for assessing temperature has long been considered more accurate than other methods.
