There are many countries whose minor currency unit is a penny. For some strange reason, the US cent is also called a penny! All these pennies differ in size. The main economy that uses a penny is the United Kingdom, where its radius is 10.15 millimetres.

A Shilling was a coin made of silver, or in later years, copper-nickel, and of silvery appearance, approximately 23.5 mm in diameter. A Penny was a copper or bronze coin approximately 30.8 mm in diameter. There were 12 Pence to a Shilling. These coins are now redundant in all of the Commonwealth countries that were using them.

The Royal Mint does not reveal how much it costs to produce coins since it operates in a competitive environment.

Rest assured, however, that if the cost of production comes anywhere near the face value of the coin, the coin will either be discontinued or made from cheaper materials in future.

At a guess based on what some other Mints are doing, I would suggest that a 2 Pence coin would cost less than 0.1 Pence to manufacture.

British Halfpennies have not been made from silver for hundreds of years. If you have a 1939 British silver halfpenny, it is because somebody plated it, and it has no value. A halfpenny made from silver would be worth about £20 GBP just because of the silver content.

British coins of 1692 were those of William and Mary. For this reign, the old hammered sovereigns had long ceased, and modern milled sovereigns (20 shillings) were not minted till George III's reign, in 1817. So there are no sovereigns of 1692. Just guineas. To-day a guinea (the term still being used occasionally in auction bidding) is 21 shillings, but neither sovereigns nor guineas had any set value. At the beginning of the reign, 1688, guineas were valued at 21/6d, but by 1694 they circulated for as much as 30s. If you have a gold coin of William and Mary, you first need to find whether it is a half-guinea, guinea, double guinea, or 5 guinea piece. The latter was not minted that year. All these milled gold coins were of 22 carats gold; if they were worn, or clipped, the shop or bank would be likely to weigh them on scales, and take off value for underweight coins. Even households had these tiny pocket scales. And of course, if the price of gold rose significantly, gold coins disappeared to hoarders and melters.

"Georgius V" (don't forget, in Latin the letter V was what we now call a U) refers to George the Fifth. "Dei Gratia Britton Rex" (or similar spelling) would mean "King of Britain by the grace of God."

FID:DEF is an abbreviation of "Fidei Defensor", Latin for "Defender of the Faith", a hereditary title held by British monarchs since it was bestowed upon Henry VIII by Pope Leo X in 1521.

Similarly IND:IMP stands for "Indiae Imperator", Latin for "Emperor of India", another title held by Victoria and her successors until 1948.

What this amounts to is an abbreviated reference to all the titles of King George V, who reigned from 1910 to 1936.

The only reference I can find to a British 1977 coin set, is for a set of 7 coins commemorating the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. A British 1977 set of Proof coins (Silver Jubilee Commemorative - Proof Crown plus 50p to halfpenny inclusive) could fetch up to £12 GBP. The Royal Mint produced no Halfpenny coins from 1776 to 1798 inclusive.

Due to Britains ongoing expenses with various wars in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, there were very few silver or copper coins minted, subsequently there were a great many privately minted tokens and counterfeit coins produced.

To get an estimate of value on a privately minted token, you need to provide the details of the inscription on the token.

If you refer to the GEORGE III 1797 "Cartwheel" Penny and Twopence, they are both made from copper and are of almost identical appearance, the Penny is a little over 30 mm in diameter and the Twopence is much larger at about 40 mm in diameter.

Most likely it is worth a small amount, depending on the metal it is made of. It is probably formed from a British coin. You may have missed a "V" between "Georgivs" and "D". My brief research leads me to think it refers to the fifth king George, though I may be mistaken.
