Who invented the electric television?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Although the first operating television system was demonstrated by John Logie Baird in 1925, the system used a rotating disc to form an image. It therefore is classified as an electro-mechanical system. Despite the system being somewhat cumbersome, the BBC used it for their first television broadcasts in 1929.

It was down to Philo Farnsworth to eliminate the moving parts. He demonstrated his own version of the electro-mechanical system in 1927 but by 1929 he showed off the world's first fully electronic system that had no moving parts. RCA used Farnsworth's system for their first commercial broadcasts but because of legal battles, the commercial launch was delayed until 1939.

Does media create public opinion?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

These are the two main ways mass media influence our opinion.

There is what is generally called "psycho-sell." It is a system used by advertisement agencies and media outlets, such as television channels and radio stations to "convince" their audiences to do or act in a certain way. It appeals to the vulnerability of the desired target (you or I). For instance: mouth wash. How many people you know, really suffer from bad breath? But I bet you have a little jar of mouth wash stashed in your bathroom, somewhere. If not, then you are probably one in hundreds of people, who do not fall victims to "psycho-sell." One must not forget this is not only applicable to product advertising.

In the other hand we have what is called "cultural icons." In this case we are talking about a famous person or persons Who are recognized and admired by whole communities. These individuals have the "Power" to convince their followers or fans into taking any kind of action or decision. Or just by giving their "opinion" they are truly suggesting. The "Cultural Icons" usually are linked or work for some media outlet and are used, to influence the community accordingly.

What country was the first to have television?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The first fully operational television system was demonstrated in 1925 in London, England by John Logie Baird.

But... the answer isn't quite that simple. Baird was a Scotsman and started his work in Scotland. So the country of origin might be Scotland. However, he used something called a Nipkow disc to create a scanned image. That was invented by Gottlieb Nipkow, a German of Russian heritage. Although Nipkow never made a television with his disc, it was a fundamental part of the Baird system. So perhaps the television is German or Russian.

One last complication - Philo Farnsworth developed the ideas and showed off his own electro-mechanical television system in 1927 in the US. Then in 1929, he created a television that had no moving parts. His fully electronic television formed the basis of all television developments for the following half century. So, just maybe, the modern television is American.

Add other small but significant inventions to the list and the number of countries gets larger. Oh, we mustn't forget our Italian friend, Marconi, who developed wireless transmission, without which television would never have got off the ground.

There are enough countries involved in the creation of television to keep most people convinced that it was conceived in their own country and to keep this debate running for many years to come.
