Well, by this serial number alone it would make it a gun made in 1904, but it peobably wouldn't be a Browning. FN made the guns for worldwide sales and not just Browning. A few thousand guns were made for the Browning Automatic Arms Co. and shipped around that time in 190-3 and 04.

Chances are, that you have a gun with a letter preceeding the 12786, or a letter above the number such as "H" or "L", "M" or "G". It could have letter number combo such as "2V". If there are or is a letter above the number, list the whole number, otherwise give details of the address on the barrel to verify 1904.

Miroku guns made under their name does not have serial info published. Winchester, Charles Daly and Browning have all been made by Miroku in the past. Do you have a model?

This goes back to the beginning of the auto 5 production in 1903. John Cockerill was a British Industrialist whose company supplied high quality steel to Fabrique Nationale (FN) which was the maker of the A-5.

The Cockerill name was first used on Browning barrels stamped "cockerill steel". The steel was a very strong quality that met the proofing requirements of guns that were shooting smokeless powder. Eventually the Cockerill name was dropped from the barrels and "special steel" was used instead.

The FN guns that were not sold to Browning in the US, uses the barrel stamp of "acier special" which means special steel in the French language.

Well looking around the internet it looks like 900 to 2000, I was going to ask 1000 for mine but it has a small chip out of the wood. Hope this helps, Steve

It doesnt have a bolt, but what is called the Breech Block. You don't remove the Breech Block for cleaning. It would require a complete dissasembly of the receiver which is only recommended for a professional gunsmith. To clean, remove the barrel from the receiver by unscrewing the magazine cap. Clean the receiver with a light solvent and wipe clean, then apply a small amount of gun oil where the groves hold the moving barrel slides. To get gunk out of smaller areas, try a pipe cleaner.

Auto 5's with poly-chokes, compensators and recoil pads (other than Mag 12's) will reduce value. A rough ball park figure would be $400-$700 range for this gun.
