yes you can read the codes however not in the form of obd2. check engine or shut down light will come on. there is a obd1 plug under the dash put a paperclip in the first two holes (first hole on top and first hole on bottom). by doing this it will make the code flash through the check engine or shut down light flashing a number of times . these numbers are the fault code. count the numbers and look up the code to see what the car is telling you.

remove hoses from firewall and make sure there is no rust or buildup on tubes. reinstall hoses and make sure hose clamps are really tight. If this doesn't work, your heater core needs to be replaced.
