I searched the internet looking for a way to program my comcast remote to work on my plain old 32" Sylvania TV. Nothing worked. The codes given by comcast didn't work. I read on another web site (askdave) where people with new Sony big screens were having the same problem. Their problem was solved by entering a 1 in front of the four digit number on comcast's list for their TV. I tried this for my Sylvania and the third code in the list worked with the 1 in front of it. Hope this helps.

There are two important factors that affect the maximum length of the cable. One is the data rate for the signal being sent and the other is the cable itself.

A co-ax cable that costs a few cents per foot will normally not have the same performance as one that is a dollar per foot. In general, the larger the diameter of the cable, the lower signal loss it will show for a given distance. All good cables will have a data sheet that sets out the losses for signals of certain frequencies.

Standard definition video needs a far lower data rate than high definition, so when carrying HD content, expect the signal to fail at a shorter distance than SD. As a very. very rough guide, expect SD to cope with several hundred feet of cable. HD may be limited to 100 feet or less for the equivalent cable.

Satellite and cable feeds use higher frequencies than baseband video and so signal loss is more of an issue.

I just bought the Samsung BD-C5500 HTiB and used code 85 listed under Emerson to control my Dynex 40" LCD TV. It does not seem to work for "Function/TV Source" but Power, Vol & Tuning/Ch work well.

IR is shortrange and requires line of sight... think of it like a flashlight...you could bounce it off a mirror at the TV and it would get there, but if something is in the way the light gets blocked.

RF is radio waves and can travel through walls and other objects...to operate devices in another room.

Ok it took me a long time to figure this out but i got it.. the correct code is 135 and i was shocked to learn that almost every button actually works with that code. i was looking on the internet for days and never got my answer but i found it so i had to share it.. enjoy

HD ready tv is High Definition - meaning more clear, concise and crisp picture as well as sound.

There is special programming through your cable for this if you have a High Definition television.

If you mean free Over the Air (OTA) TV using an antenna:

1) If you have an HD TV set, you don't need any kind of special box.

2) If you don't have an HD TV set, but your TV set has a digital tuner, you don't need a special box, but you will see the HD picture converted to a Standard Definition (SD) picture.

3) If you don't have an HD TV set and your TV set does not have a digital tuner, you will need a converter box. The converter box will convert the HD broadcasts to SD so your TV can display them.

If you mean cable TV, it depends on your cable provider and your TV.

If you don't have an HD TV, at best you will see an HD signal converted to SD.

If your TV has a digital tuner and it is also a QAM tuner, you might be able to receive some HD channels without a box if your cable company chooses to provide unscrambled HD channels. If your TV has an analog tuner or a digital tuner without QAM, you will need some sort of box.

ABC can be on any channel in different markets (cities).

Two easy suggestions. 1) Trick: pre-pend a 1 to the code. Some have found by just adding an additional "1" in-front of the comcast remote code works. For, example, My Magnavox codes found at: http://www.comcast.com/MediaLibrary/1/2/CM/VanityURL/documents/comcast_dvr_remote_manual.pdf were 0054, 0030, 0179, & 0186.

So I should try 10054, 10030, 10179, 10186.

2) Goto the remote manufacturer's site. I found out that my comcast remote is made by UEI at this URL: http://www.urcsupport.com/ I found my remote on that page (one similiar, not exact) and clicked for the codes. which led me here (great page...) http://www.urcsupport.com/html.php?page_id=329

It asked for my "BRAND" (magnavox) and "MODEL" (left blank). it returned code: 10054 Same as one in answer #1 AND IT WORKED!!! Good Luck
