As with all multiplayer Call of Duty games, in multiplayer - Weapons (as well as perks and challenges) are unlocked simply by increasing your "rank".

when you unlock a weapon - you must then complete challenges with them to unlock attatchments like scopes and silencers (varies per weapon).

To do this, the player must participate in online mathes with other players or with other players on their own console offline. When you complete tasks such as kill other players (on the enemy team!) or caputure command posts in Domination, you are rewarded with experience points. It is useful to note that while challanges in their preliminary stages may not reward much exp - ofteh they have multiple stages, which reward more and more exp when you complete them.

Your rank is determined by the experience you have. As you gain ranks, it requires more and more Exp (experience points) to progress to the next level. The maximum rank on modernwarfare 2 is 70.

After this you have unlocked all weapons and challanges, and have the option of entering "prestigue" mode.

After entering presitgue, although you keep your 'titles' and 'emblems' in modernwarfare 2, when you prestigue you

LOOSE ALL YOUR WEAPONS, ATTATCHMENTS AND PERKS!!!!!

Only presituge if you are absolutely sure you want to do it all again. It still requires the same exp for each rank as it did the first time round, but you have to do it all again. (including challenges.)

1. Kill millions of players online, spend hundreds of hours ranking and prestiging up.

2. Have someone "mod" your 10th prestige on through a system link on a website.

3. Join a "10th lobby" as many people call them. These are lobbies where players with "JTAGGED" Xbox 360's are able to give you 10th prestige just by joining the game. (These can be risky if you do not use a reputable lobby site )

OK, To start off my answer, The person above me has no idea what hes talking about. Call of Duty: Black ops was based during the Cold War and Vietnam. It has been shown in call of duty's history since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare that Activison does not repeat the same concept twice. The increasingly true rumor about the release date of Modern Warfare 3 being revealed to the public during this summers E3 event in June 2011 may very well be true. No one really knows for sure when it will come out, But many fans of the franchise believe that the release date will be in Fall 2011, As previous Call of Duty installments have.

Modern warfare is a grey area. Most people would accept the definition to be when machines were used in war as opposed to men and horses etc. By that definition the start came about towards the end of WW I. Any war after that could be classed as an example of modern warfare.
