What you most likely have is a 1 oz bullion coin called an American Eagle dollar. These coins are made for collectors and investors, not for spending, and the $1 denomination is artificial.

They generally sell for a small amount above the current price of 1 oz of silver. That changes every day so you'll need to check the business section of a newspaper or a financial or precious metals website. Any value posted here would be out of date almost immediately.

The only five-cent coin that the U.S. issued in 1802 was called a half-dime. The nickel coins we have now weren't struck until 1866.

If you have a half-dime you should get it authenticated by a dealer because half-dimes from that period can be quite valuable.

On the other hand, if you have a nickel-sized coin with a pair of hands below the date of 1803 (not 1802, but it's small and hard to read), turn it over very carefully and look to the right of Tom J.'s portrait. You'll see the date 2004, which is the year when these commemorative nickels were issued to mark the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

A Canadian five cent piece, or nickel, was one of the denominations of coins minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1926. The 1926 5-cent piece is 100% nickel and weighs about 4.55 grams. The coin in 21.21 milimeters in diameter and is magnetic. The obverse (heads) features His Majesty King George the Fifth facing left and wearing the Imperial State Crown. The wording on the obverse is, "GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: REX ET IND: IMP:", which is abbreviated Latin. The English translation is, "George the Fifth, By the Grace of God King and Emperor of India". The reverse (tails) features the word CANADA arched over the words FIVE CENTS with a somewhat larger 5 in between the words. Under this there are two maple leaves pointing away from each other with the date beneath the stems. The designer and engraver for the heads side was Sir E.B. MacKennal, and the designer/engraver for the reverse was W.H.J. Blakemore. The edge is smooth and the overall coin is identical to other Canadian nickels made from 1920-1936. There are two variants between 1926 nickels: the "far 6" and the "near 6". The difference between the two is a very small difference in the place of the letter 6 (the near 6 is somewhat closer to the maple leaf than the far 6). "Far 6" values range from $150 to $1300, depending on condition. "Near 6" values range from $6 to $240.

The US only made steel cents in 1943. Any silver-colored cents dated 1942 are plated.

You can always use a magnet to test a suspected steel coin. If it doesn't stick to a magnet it's not steel.

That design has been issued for decades. Most newer coins are only worth 5¢, but if yours is older than about 40 years please post a new, separate question with the coin's date.

You are asking about a 5 Cent coin (KM#40a) from Canada. The coin measures 21.2mm across, weigh 4.4 grams and is composed of Chrome-plated Steel. The coin is round, but has a 12-sided regular polygon (a "dodecagon") inscribed inside the edge. The obverse (front) has a portrait of King George VI of Great Britain and the inscription "GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP:" (abbreviated Latin for "George the Sixth, By the Grace of God, King and Emperor of India"). The reverse (back) has a torch and a big "V" (the roman numeral for "5"), with "CANADA" above the torch, "19" and "45" on either side of the torch, and "CENTS" (with a maple leaf at each end) below the torch. 18,893,216 of these coins were produced in 1945.

In any case a 1977 coin is unlikely to be valuable because its date is after the time when most countries' circulating coins contained silver. The BC "Tang Dynasty Horse", if it's in very good condition, is worth about $12. I'm not sure what the catalogue value lists them for, but retail stores are flogging them for around $12. They have them listed under medallions/tokens rather than dollars.

It is either a common date, or it is a common date with a scarce variety.

In 1949 there are several varietys. The main one is to look at the last "A" in "Gratia" on the obverse, and if the last "A" is pointing at a denticle instead of between a denticle then your coin is worth around 40 - 500 $ If your coin is pointing between denticles, then it is common and worth a couple dollars, unless it is a very high grade.

The "beads" that are being referred to on this coin are the beads that circle the outside rim of the heads (obverse) side of the coin.

Small Beads Variety - On the right side of the queens face is the inscription D.G. Regina. If you take a close look at the periods after the "D" and the "G" of this inscription and compare their size to the size of the beads, the beads are noticeably smaller than the periods after the "D" and the "G".

Large Beads Variety - In this variety, the beads surrounding the rim are at least the same size or larger than the periods after the "D" and "G".

If you do have a small beads variety its extremely rare and is worth anywhere from $1,300 to $7,300 depending on the condition and strike of the coin.
