As far as booking and your stay, I have a few recommendations:
- Use a travel agent who can get you a flight and hotel package that's all-inclusive and who also might have the ins and outs/tips on the best times for flights, non-stop flights, can set up your transfers from the airport, etc. I recommend Fox World Travel at gofox.com. I've had nothing but positive experiences.
- If you're insistent on booking online (and many people are), at least use a site that's giving you a good deal and covering all the bases without adding on more costs as you go. A nice site I've found is deals2cancun.com. They include the transfers from the airport for free and also have some non-stop flights that are c convenient. The best part is they offer a 10% rebate on the clearinghouse deals.
- Bring sunscreen! Trust me.
- Tip the waitstaff, bartenders and maids... they are your friends!
- Give yourself enough layover time for customs at the airport (where a travel agent comes in handy)
- Drink water while down there in between cocktails.... you'll be much happier.
