Can rabbits have too much straw to nest with?

No, your rabbit can not have too much straw, more in the winter will provide more warmth and protection from the cold, and in summer (warmer weather) you should put in less as it will cost more to have this much straw all the time, in the summer ONLY put enough to cover the floor of the hutch, as your rabbit can over heat and get sick.

How may rabbits can 2 rabbits produce over a year?

a female rabbit is able to have a new litter of babies every three months, and a litter can range from 1-10 babies..

Answer: Wrong^^

A lot!

A rabbits gestation period is 30 days and they are able to get pregnant again immediately after having the previous litter of kits. Rabbits also have a horned womb, which means they have two spaces in their womb in which they can hold two separate litters. They can range from 1 kit to about 15.

rabbits are induced ovulators, so as soon as there is the prescence of a fertile male around they produce an egg.

It is always reccomended to get your rabbits fixed as female rabbits have an 80% chance of developing some form of reproductive cancer by age 4.

Also, there are thousands of rabbits in shelters and rescues that need homes. For each kit that is bred that's one less home to a bunny in a rescue.

Can Rex rabbits eat tomatoes?

Rex rabbits can eat the same foods as all pet rabbits. When it comes to care and behaviour, all pet rabbits are pretty much the same.

Tomato vines, leaves, and stems are toxic to rabbits (including Rexs). Tomato fruit is not toxic but it shouldn't be a staple of a rabbit's diet. If your rabbit likes tomato, a bite or two every few days at most is okay -- tomato can be a treat. Otherwise, rabbits should mostly be eating hay, with some pellets and fresh greens daily. See the related questions below for more info.

What should you do if there are no rabbit vets in your area and your rabbit is not eating pellets or using the bathroom and has only had a small amount of celery in over 24 hours?

Rabbits, just like cats, can get hairballs. Unfortunately, unlike cats they cannot regurgitate (vomit) so the hairballs can sometimes cause a blockage. These blockages can be fatal unless treated aggressively.

GI Stasis: When a rabbit isn't using the litter box and isn't eating, that means he's in GI stasis. GI stasis is fatal. Hairball blockages is one possible cause but there are many possible reasons why this might be happening. Without vet care your rabbit will probably not survive.

To help your rabbit you need to treat the GI stasis, and whatever caused the GI stasis may be a separate problem also needing treatment (for example, dental disease).

Treating GI stasis involves pain medications, gut motility medications, hand-feeding (aka force-feeding), subcutaneous fluids, and regular belly massage; enemas may also help. Digestive surgery is often too much for a rabbit to recover from and is only a final option. Vets need to be careful with medications because many that are safe for cats/dogs are dangerous for rabbits.

If your rabbit needs medical help and there are no rabbit specialist vets in your area: your only option is to find a cat/dog vet willing to try. This vet should go online and maybe call up other vets to figure out what to do. Two excellent websites that vets can use are MediRabbit (lots of technical info about drugs, procedures, etc) and H.A.R.E. Rabbit Health Central (articles written by a professional). See links below.

If your lop mated with a dwarf can her Bunnies be lops?

Yes, if a lop rabbit mates with a dwarf rabbit, their offspring may inherit characteristics from both parents, such as lop ears from the lop parent and small size from the dwarf parent. It is possible for the bunnies to have lop ears, but it is not guaranteed as it depends on the specific genetic traits passed down.

Why does your bunny lick metal?

just because their curious. all dogs have a sence of curiosity in them. and if they keep lickin the metal, then maybe they just like the taste of metal...

That above is a TERRIBLE answer so I crossed it out.

Dogs lick metal for a bunch of different reasons, but typically dogs do not lick things because they are curious, they sniff things because they are curious. A dog who licks metal could just be bored. Typically OCD behaviors appear as very specific, strange behaviors like licking weird things, chewing, running in circles, barking at nothing, etc. You have to ask yourself if your dog gets enough exercise and MENTAL stimulation. Many people think their dogs get enough exercise because they go for a walk each day, but for some breeds that is not enough. Dogs that are traditional working dogs or high strung type dogs (like terriers, shepards, etc) need mental stimulation as well. You can find a lot of info online if you do some googling.

Another cause of metal licking could be a mineral deficiency, possibly iron or some other mineral. You should have a blood test and make sure to let them know you might be concerned about an iron deficiency.

Finally, one cause of obsessive licking could be seizures. This is far more rare and usually comes accompanied with other symptoms and the licking becomes pattern-like versus random.

Why do rabbits live in the woods?

It all depends on where it was born. If it was born in a house then it would not live well in the woodlands because it always used to get given food and not have to find it. If it was born in the woodlands it would have an automatic adaptation to the woodlands.

Can you bathe a rabbit with fur loss?

It's not a good idea to bathe a rabbit with fur loss. Whatever is causing the fur loss, a bath could make it worse and really irritate the skin. If your rabbit is suffering from fur loss, something is very wrong! This is not at all normal for rabbits. Bring your rabbit to a special knowledgeable vet as soon as possible!

How can you calm a rabbit who is scared and skittish and shy all the time?

Keep the environment quiet. Do not subject the rabbit to loud noises or sudden movement. When you approach the rabbit, move slowly and speak quietly. Train the rabbit to trust you. Hold a small piece of apple or another treat where it can be seen and smelled. See if the rabbit will come out of a hiding place to approach the treat and take some of it while you are holding the treat. Then drop the treat and pet the rabbit on the back or side so that the rabbit associates being touched with a nice treat. If you can put a rabbit in a small enclosed area that is safe, it helps to just sit on the floor calmly and let the rabbit explore and approach you when it wants to. Most rabbits enjoy having a large cardboard tube for a hiding place so that they are not always out in the open. Also, remember that some rabbits are friendlier than others just by nature. It may take a while to get a shy rabbit to relax and be calm around people.

Can you have more than 1 pet rabbit in the same hutch?

Yes, so long as the rabbits are bonded (this means they're friends and you can 100% trust them not to hurt each other), they can be kept in the same hutch. Unless you have two females raised together from the same litter, then in order to bond two rabbits you need to spay/neuter them first. Never put two males together if they're not neutered because they could (and often do) fight to the death. Two unsprayed females can also seriously hurt themselves, and a male/female mix will either result in injury or pregnancy. Considering all the needy rabbits in animal shelters across the world, it's not a good idea to bring more rabbits into the world by allowing them to mate. See the related links and questions below for more information.

What does rabbits give us?

When do rabbits start walking?

Weaned (so over 8 weeks).

Start when the rabbit is young getting it used to a harness. NEVER use just a collar on a rabbit, if it startles it'll run and break its neck. Cat harness work well, get the adjustable kind and not the figure 8 ones. Get the rabbit used to hopping around wearing the harness, letting drag the leash around next. Never leave a harness on an unsupervised rabbit-it can and will get tangled and may lead to strangulation.

Honestly, you're better off not walking a rabbit outside. There are too many factors (dogs, cars, cats, hawks flying by, people shouting, etc) that could startle the rabbit and cause it to bolt. I've had it happen! Rabbits do die of fright (I've had that happen also), so walking them is not a good idea unless it's in an enclosed place they are used to. If you want to take your rabbit along, get one of those carriers they

What do you do when your pet rabbit has babies?

Provide a warm, safe and quiet nesting area for the mother and babies. Make sure the mother has plenty of food and water available. Monitor the babies to ensure they are nursing and growing properly. Avoid handling the babies too much in the first few weeks to reduce stress for the mother.

When can you handle baby bunnies?

Only handle baby bunnies once they open their eyes and are exploring. You could pick them up before that, but only if absolutely necessary like if they fall out of den where they were born, or you see that something is wrong with them. Also you can not have them away from the mom for more than a few minutes or else the mother will disown them.

Why are two males rabbits trying to mate with each other?

rabbits normally only fight when another rabbit or animal is trying to take its food or even its home. it also depends whether or not the rabbit is a pet or not, because if it is not a pet, it is obviously raised differently than if it was. Any rabbit, any sex, any relation and NOT altered will eventually fight as they are very territorial and they fight to establish dominance and to drive the other rabbit away.

Do rabbits need friends?

Rabbits are social animals and can benefit from having a friend, preferably another rabbit, to interact and bond with. However, it is important to properly introduce and supervise their interactions to ensure they get along well. If a rabbit will be alone, providing plenty of social interaction, enrichment, and attention from their human caregivers is crucial for their well-being.

Do rabbits have to get neutured?

They don't have to, but getting them neutered can calm them down a lot, it's also best to get them neutered if you're putting two male rabbits together, or a male and a female. Two male rabbits can still fight if you get them neutered, it just lowers the chance. And it's obvious what will happen if you put a male and female together...

Rabbits have long hind legs to help them in their primary mode of escape, which is running. The powerful muscles in their hind legs provide them with speed and agility to evade predators. Additionally, long hind legs allow rabbits to make quick, sudden leaps to safety.

vegetables fruits and certain plants. but buying rabbit food from a pet store insures top nutrition for the animal as well as keeping him healthy

Specifically they eat fresh alfalfa, timothy hay, oat hay, fresh-picked grasses, clovers, herbs and fresh vegetables. If you pick clovers/grass/herbs for your rabbit, it must be pesticide-free. Rabbits will also eat their feces, and this is typical. They absorb vitamins from consuming it.

How do you clean a rabbit cage?

On a daily basis, you might: scoop out the soiled parts of the litter, and replace with fresh litter; wash water bottle/bowl and replace with fresh water; and sweep/scoop out old hay and replace with fresh hay. Check any fabrics or toys for sign of dangerous wear.

On a bigger clean, you might: empty out litter box and wash it with white vinegar or hot water and soap; wipe down any soiled surfaces or bars in the cage with white vinegar; vacuum or wash any fabrics in the cage; sweep up all the hay and fur and bits of food etc. Inspect all over the cage and everything in the cage for any signs of dangerous wear.
