How long can a kitten live with their mother?

About twelve weeks old. Ten weeks at the very earliest.

Sadly, too many kittens are taken away from their mothers too early, usually around six to eight weeks old (some kittens aren't even weaned properly at that age). They have had no chance to learn what behaviour is good or bad, and behavioral problems will become apparent as the kitten gets older which, often, are difficult to correct.

Kittens six to eight weeks old have not learned any important socialisation or behaviour skills yet, which kittens learn from eight weeks onwards. During this time kittens will learn how to play and interact with their littermates, mother and any other animals and humans in the house.

They will learn what behaviour is acceptable and what is not from their mother, and will learn how to play and share with their littermates. They will also learn about grooming and litterbox use at this crucial time. Most kittens are well socialised by the time they are twelve weeks old, and are very likely to grow into very gentle and affectionate pets.

It depends on the cat you have. Is your cat friendly or agressive? If friendly they should do well. Are their two unfixed male cats? They might fight! If you have a male and a female you might get kittens. I suggest you always spay or nueter your cats. The neighborhood cats temerments count too.

Cats may hurt people inadvertently while playing or when feeling threatened. Do cats grieve for each other?

I had a cat who was raised with an older cat from the time he was a kitten. The older cat did not even like him much--they had a relationship of hissing and swatting at each when they passed one another. Yet, when the older cat died, the younger cat seemed to go into a depression that lasted about a month. I asked a psychic what was wrong with my cat and said said he was grieving for another cat that had died (I had not told her I had another cat). I told her they never got along well to begin with, and she said, "Sometimes in the animal kindgom, a worthy advesary can be missed more than a friend."

True or false cats can recognize human faces?

True. Cats have been shown to be able to recognize human faces, particularly those of their owners or other individuals they are familiar with. They use visual cues, such as facial features and expressions, to distinguish between different people.

Why does your cat go through your legs?

Your cat may go through your legs as a way to show affection, seek attention, or mark its territory by rubbing against you. It could also be a way for the cat to establish familiarity and closeness with you.

Should you have your kitten nueted?

Yes, kittens should be neutered.

An intact tom is more likely to spray urine in the house (to mark his territory), roam long distances outdoors and fight with other cats. This can increase his risk of injury/death due to a road accident or infected wound, as well as diseases such as FIV (which is primarily transmitted by bites sustained due to fighting).

An unspayed queen, if allowed to roam outdoors, will get pregnant and give you the responsibility (and cost) of caring for a litter of young kittens and finding them good homes. It is possible for her to have birth complications which can present you with very expensive vet bills or even result in her death. As with the tom, she will also benefit from reduced risk of disease (including cancers) if spayed.

Both males and females, unless they are fixed, contribute to the growing problem of unwanted cats in shelters, which may be euthanised if homes cannot be found for them.

Therefore, unless you are a breeder, it is always a good idea to neuter your cat.

Why is your mother cat rejecting one of her kittens?

sometimes the mom will ignore her least healthy one because she knows she will only have enough milk for the rest, also sometimes people will start to pick up the kitens too soon, she may drag them to another place in the house, or if she does NOT like the smell of the person who picked them up, she will also ignore that particular kitten.

How do you introduce an 8 year old dog into the home of a 12 year old cat?

Many people think that cats and dogs don't get along, but, given time most do. Your cat obviously isn't use to having a dog around and probably will defend their domain. The best way to introduce the dog to the cat is to leash the dog and hold it close to you. Cats may hiss, arch their backs, but they are always curious. Take your time with the two of them. The dog will be more apt to be apprehensive for good reason. You can also put up a folding gate between a doorway to keep the dog on one side and see how the cat and dog react. Most cats may hiss and arch their backs, but seldom ever get into a brawl with a dog unless the dog backs them into a corner and even at that cats rules and one good swipe from the cat will put the dog in it's place.

How old should kittens be when they are separated from their siblings?

Answer:

The siblings aren't really as important as the mother, but both are still very important in order to learn social skills from eight to twelve weeks. They can leave the litter at 12 weeks old, although some breeders like to wait a few extra weeks.

Your cat just got back from the vet and now the other cat keeps hissing what to do?

It's the smell of the vet's clinic. You could: A) Seperate the cats for a couple days until the smell wears off or B) Give the kitty a bath. I've also seen a suggestion to rub a towel into the hissing cat's fur and then rubbing it on the one that went to the vet, but I haven't tried it myself and it sounds like it might only help a little.

Male cat is moaning?

If your male cat is moaning, it could be a sign of pain, discomfort, or sickness. It's important to observe his behavior and look for any other signs of distress such as changes in eating, grooming, or litter box habits. It's best to consult with a veterinarian to determine the cause and provide appropriate treatment.

Do two cats from the same litter have the same scent?

No, cats have unique scent profiles, even among siblings from the same litter. They may share some scent similarities due to genetic relatedness, but they will have individual scents that can be differentiated by other cats and animals.

Why would a cat hiss at his litter box?

Cats usually hiss when then feel threatened. The person posing the original question didn't cite whether the cat was male or female, but I would imagine that a male cat would hiss at a litter box more than a female if it detected another male's urine present. I don't think this is a common trait among the cat family, and your cat hissing at a litter box just might be something peculiar to your cat. Does it hiss at other bizzare times? Its behavior sounds a bit like a personality disorder and irrational. Does the owner pay a lot of attention to the cat? Perhaps that would help to soothe it. Does the owner talk to its cat? All animals love to be talked to and they all can easily detect the mood of their master. Often people do not understand how very intuitive cats and other animals are. They are extremely perceptive creatures. Just as in almost everything else in life, the more you put into them the more you get back. If you are mean, your pet will be mean. If you are loving, your pet will be loving. Finally, if your pet is acting aggressive and mean, first look into a mirror to find out what kind of a person you are.

Should you separate cats that have lived together for a long time?

I have had paired cats many times. Some were mates and others were brothers or sister pairs. In every instance whenever something happened to one, the other felt lost. They acted out and would search for the other one. It would be a hard choice to break them up and i would only do it if it meant saving one or both cats lives.
