Why do chameleons change colors?
Most people think chameleons change color to camouflage into the background so they cannot be seen. While there are some chameleon-like lizards that do change colors for this reason, it's actually not the biggest reason for chameleons themselves.
Scientists believe the main reason chameleons change color is to communicate with other chameleons and show off their mood! For example, some chameleons will change colors if they see another chameleon and are excited about it! Or they might also change colors when they're feeling scared or ready to defend themselves.
Chameleons also sometimes change colors to adjust to temperature and light. A cold chameleon might turn to a darker color to help itself absorb more heat! A chameleon in bright sun might change colors to help itself reflect more light.

Does the common chameleon eat a lot?
i used to own a veiled chameleon and it was a lot of work to own. never own one unless you want to work really hard to make sure it has the right environment to live in, because other wise they sicken and die very fast. now... assuming you were referring to the Jackson chameleon, they will eat several live crickets a day and will require a small number of other insects as well to provide variety. crickets should be gutloaded by feeding them a varied diet so that when they are eaten by the chameleon, the chameleon will get the benefit of the added nutrients in the belly of said insect. chameleons do not make good pets and are more like very testy art objects that require a lot of care to keep running. they do not like to be held and have very special needs. do lots of research before buying one.
