The oil filter is built in the engine (no more external canister). Unscrew the oil filler cap (the cap where you put the oil into the engine). Remove the black plastic cowl that covers the engine. You will see a black round circle with a nut on top, just forward of the oil filler cap. This is where the filter is located. Use a 32mm or 1 1/4 socket to remove the cover. Remove the oil filter and seal. Replace with new oil filter and lube the new seal. This is plastic so be careful not to over tighten it when putting it back on. Has happened to me THREE TIMES! One time, It was when the car was on and I couldn't turn it off. Chevy knows this is a flaw and they will usually change it for free<- Also there is a plunger inside the steering housing. There should be a square shaped plastic cover under the steering wheel, pry it off with a screw driver and then find with yoiur finger a plastic or rubber cylinder, pull this back and turn the key. It should come right out.
Mine blew apart inside and they had to cut the head of the key off and put in a whole new unit and reprogram the keys, it would have been over 200.00 bucks but was covered under warranty, they claim it won't happen again and is not the same design....I have my GM doubts.....It was great to have the car running on the tow truck and at the dealer which was closed on a Sat. or Sun. afternoon.....
If your battery is completely dead, or battery disconnected. The key, once in and turned would not come out for me. Once I charged up the battery I Was able to remove the key. You can also remove the small plug in the underside of the steering column. May not be a plug but just a circle so I used a small drill bit right in the middle of it. Very tough to see as there is only a small faint circle visible. Once removed it will expose a pin. i usually work blind and just push the small scew driver in the hole. Push the pin then the key will turn back to the full off position and can be removed.

ecotech engine- they are under the plastic cover on top of the engine-- remove the oil filler cap, gently pull up on the cover it has a few little plastic tabs that hold it in place, put the oil filler cap on before you accidentally drop something into the opening. the oil filter is in the front on top of the engine it is a black large bolt on top of what looks like a canister it has a lift out element and the replacement comes with a new o-ring.
do yourself a favor and buy the socket that matches the bolt they are at most auto partstores and about $10 worth it trust me. easiest and cleanest oil change youll ever do.
