I don't know what inspires Leiferiklarson, but as far as I know, in history there are actually Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism in China. Catholic churches can only be seen one or two hundred years ago. However, Chinese are not serious about their religions very much and there is no religious war in the whole Chinese history.
If you have ever been in China, you will find there are all kinds of churches and temples everywhere, but the Han Chinese, which stand 90% of all China's population, only go to these churches and temples for fun. Instead of monotheism, most of Han Chinese warship their own ancestors, but they only remember to pray when they really need the good luck.
At the end of the year, Chinese will "invite" the past members of family to join the feast by putting a board with names on it to show their respects.
