Yes it is because they will mate, and not all chinchillas should be allowed to mate. for instance the chinchillas pet stores have should never be mated because no one knows what their backgrounds are, and they maybe have many issues that can be carried down into their kits, for example malocussion, which is a death sentence for chinchillas. not to mention, many things can go wrong when you breed. i have heard many things going wrong from reputable breeders.
