Explain the developments in Europe that led up to Columbus's voyage to America?
A development did not lead to Columbus' voyage to the Americas. What led Columbus to discover the Americas was this:
During this time period, the only known continents were Europe, Africa, and Asia, as they were all connected. There was immense trading between the continents, however, there were only two ways to get to Asia: through the Mediterranean or around Africa. The Italians controlled the Mediterranean trade route, so to get through them some heavy taxes had to be paid, if you were even let through at all. The trip around Africa was long and dangerous. So Christopher Columbus, an Italian, had an idea: sail across the Atlantic. He believed that Asia was right across the Atlantic from Europe. He went to Italy for the nation to fund his voyage but they called him crazy. This is because many people thought the Earth was flat and if you reached the end (which was believed to be the Atlantic), you'd fall off. He eventually offered his proposal to Spain, who accepted. So in name of Spain, Columbus and his men set sail across the Atlantic in hopes of finding a new trade route to the Indies. They imagined it to be a short sail so they didn't pack heavily. However, after a long time on sea, much longer than expected, land was spotted. They had believed to had landed in India, although, the people here spoke differently and looked a bit different. However, they referred to them as Indians, whom they thought they were. Columbus sailed many times back and forth between Europe and the so thought Indies. And it was not known until many years after his death that he had discovered a whole new land mass: the Americas. This was proven by Amerigo Vespucci, another Italian explorer, for whom the continents are named.
What would have happen if christopher Columbus had'NT discover America?
Spain had to go through the Mediterranean and then through the middle east and then through India to make it to china, so Spain wanted to find a new and easier way to trade with China. By traveling through such a large number of countries to the east the profits that the traders had decreased because they had to pay taxes to the separate countries which the traders passed through, and there were also bandits and raiders that would kill the traders and take their goods. Because of all this they encouraged Christopher Columbus to try and find a new way to the west...and then Columbus set sail on August 3rd with 3 ships ..... the Nina, the pinta, and the Santa Maria! Yeah! You got some info on Christopher Columbus!

That answer up top I think is wrong.
The answer I think that is best to fit the question is
''He decided to sail west to reach the Indies. Because the cost of shipping by water was lower, Columbus and his backers would make more money when their cargo was sold''.
If this answer was right, You are welcome. If not I am deeply sorry.
Both answers are correct

2. Killed many indians
Not only did Christopher Columbus open up the world intellectually, to see that reaching China by going West was possible and you would not fall off the planet, but also on an economic level, trade opened up a great deal, with new markets everywhere around the world there was a great deal of advancement in physics and math as new machinery was needed for quick efficient machines which produced quality items. Advantages to Europe:
New places to migrate meant that people could leave the overpopulated countries and ease the burden (e.g in France the Population had risen to 20 million before the revolution) on the country.
Europe now had a market to sell to ( that being the West Indies and Americas)
Long term:
Great suffering for many people ( the extinction of the indigenous people of the islands)
Possibly racial discrimination which occurs today( remember people love your brothers)
Emigration
