It's been a while since i had mine off, but basically you need to drain the cooling system, remove the battery and panels etc, you need to remove the wiper arms and the whole wiper system tray, which looks scary but unbolts and lifts off in one piece. The thermostate housing is situated at the back right hand side off the engine, it's held in place by three bolts, and you need to disconnect a couple off pipes. You feel like you need to stand on your head to get to it, quite aukward. The thermostat is not removable from the housing, you have to buy the housing, and mine cost me £140 from Chrysler, plus £8 for the gasket. Beware i originally got a thermostat from a pattern supplyer, only to find when i had the car in bit's that it was wrong, and no one else but Chrysler seems to sell it.

How good is the Chrysler Crossfire?
How good is any car? Unless it was made incorrectly at the factory, or suffers from factory defective parts, any piece of machinery is as good as the guy that made it and the guy that uses/services it. My 2004 Crossfire was purchased used in 2006 with 15,000 miles. To date, only one problem - a trouble code for the air injection system at 38,000 miles which turned out to be a failed air injector relay. $435 later, I am at 53,000 miles now and only tires, wiper blades, and brake pads have been changed. I will be changing all of the fluids at 75,000 miles (regardless of the dealer's 100,000 recommendation). I expect this car to last as long as other Mercedes-Benz products, which is over 300,000 miles on average before major service is required. I expect to get my money's worth out of this American-skinned SLK.
