Impressionist painter Claude Monet's series Water Lilies, also known as Nympheas, can be seen in museums all over the world, including museums in Paris, Wales, New York, Chicago, Saint Louis, Portland, Kansas City, and Cleveland. The series is comprised of nearly 250 oil paintings executed over the last three decades of Monet's life. The subject of the paintings is Monet's flower garden at Giverny, depicted at different times of the day and in different seasons. Eight large paintings depicting the Water Lilies were painted for the French government and were to be placed in a museum at the Musee de l'Orangerie. Monet signed the contract for this commission in April 1922 and worked closely with Camille Lefevre, the head architect of the Louvre, to design plans for the building that would display Monet's paintings. Construction was complete in 1923, but Monet refused to hand over his paintings and the canvases remained in his possession until Monet died on December 5, 1926. The paintings went on display to the public at the Musee de l'Orangerie on May 17, 1927, nearly two years after Monet's death.

David Rockefeller art collection?

A couple of years ago, I was fortunate to have Mr. Rockefeller give an art tour at Hudson Pines, which is his main residence in Westchester County. As someone who enjoys art and particularly the Impressionists. I was overtaken first by a beautiful painting of shimmering Venice painted by Claude Monet.. After dinner he gave me a complete tour of the mansion's first floor. I would be understating reality when I refer to David Rockefeller as a brilliant man and gracious host with an art collection that still gives the art lover in me overwhelming awe.
