She was not the first queen of Egypt, she was actually the last of her time because after her death the Romans came and took over.

Cleopatra's life was far from privledged. She lived a sheltered life and had a childhood disease rare at the time. Her and her family moved around some and she was very distant from society. It wasn't until she broke free from her mothers control that she developed into the leader her father had made her to be. She triumphed because she had an eccentric way of thinking especially for her time.

Cleopatra ruled Egypt officially for 17 years. Before Caesar established her on the throne authority see-sawed between her and her brother.

Cleopatra VII was the last Greek Pharaoh and the only one who learned the Egyptian language. She was supported by 2 Roman generals~ Julious Caesar and Mark Antony. When Augustus gained power over the Roman Empire, he declared war on Antony and Cleopatra and defeated them in 31 BC. Augustus arrived in Alexsandria and demanded Cleopatra's surrender. She was too proud to give in and commited succide. Cleopatra had an affair with Anthony.

Cleopatra used her "intelligence" and her charms to further her ambitions. These were to keep her country independent and to preserve her dynasty. However, she got greedy and deluded herself into thinking she could rule Rome. I put the word intelligence in quotes, because Cleopatra, made the dumbest most stupid mistake that anyone wanting power could make. She did not know her enemy. Fatal for Cleopatra.

Originally Cleopatra was supposed to be a co-ruler with her brother, as stated in her father's will. A power struggle broke out and Cleopatra was dethroned. Julius Caesar restored her to the throne in 47 BC.

Yes, one could safely say that Cleopatra was a very wealthy woman. Even though her father left her with a massive debt to repay, she was able to clear the debt and start accumulating wealth for the country and for herself. Through taxation, wheat profits and especially the papyrus trade, she amassed a fortune. Cleopatra's wealth was the main reason that Marc Antony entered into an alliance with her, as he needed her money to finance his military ventures.

Cleopatra would put on elaborate ceremonies and processions to entertain the masses in Alexandria. The only ancient rulers who actually contributed to society in the sense that we think of it were the Roman emperors with their gifts, food and entertainments.

I read in book that is was blue but in pictures its brown. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initially I would of said blue as her heritage was greek but after a recent discovery, thought to be her sister which she murdered showed that the sisters DNA and I guess Cleopatra's DNA to be mixed race between African and Greek. Pictures are more likely to be correct.

No, not exactly. Cleopatra was responsible for the killing of only one brother and one sister. Another of her sisters died, possibly of natural causes, another was killed by their father, and one of her brothers drowned in the Nile.

Several things were happening during Cleopatra's reign that had an impact on the world at the time and even on our present world. First of all, Rome was in turmoil after the assassination of Julius Caesar. Octavian was consolidating his power in Rome, while Antony was in the east enjoying himself and losing his war against the Parthians. There was a Sibylline prophecy at the time telling of a "new world order", which proved to be true, but not in the way Cleopatra expected. Sextus Pompey and his pirates were blockading Rome's grain deliveries and Antony's wife and brother began an out and out war against Octavian. These are just a few of the world events during Cleopatra's reign, some of them impacted her directly, others did not.

Basically her rule was no different from other Pharaohs. All compartments of government were firmly established and continued functioning as they always had. She used Egypt as a money tree to bankroll her extravagant lifestyle just as her predecessors did. The only real difference was that Cleopatra's ambition caused her to overreach and battle Rome with the idea of winning and consequently ruling the Roman empire. Big mistake.
