Before Coldplay's name was Coldplay it was''Starfish". And before it was Starfish, they were (without Will Champion on drums) Big Fat Noises and Trombelese.

Their first name was Starfish, but then they settled on Coldplay.

It's the song/psycho-rant Mr. Blue, written by Tom Paxton. It was a corner stone number of the 60's LA rock band Clear Light, fronted by Cliff DeYoung and featuring Douglas Lubahn on bass (later played session bass for the Doors after Jim Morrison died and also for Crosby, Stills and Nash) and one of the first bands to feature a full double drums. They were managed by the same people as the Doors, or mismanaged. Never made it to the starlight. They did feature a song in the Movie: The President's Analyst, starring James Coburn.

If you're into 60's acid rock, it's a nice bit of stuff. Meant to be played very loud, at least some of the songs.

However more than half of that 1 million dallars is wasted for production, lights, etc. They make around $100,000 per concert (considering that they only do big concerts; over 20,000 people) which is pretty normal for a famous band like Coldplay.

We already asked the Benedictine Latin scholars. Perhaps the "Roman Cavalry Choir" might have a different interpretation than today's Catholic scholars. "Sanctus videus" might mean "The Holy See" or to "see like God", which heaven forbid, would allow the unwashed masses in on their native intelligence.

"Viva la Vida" means "Long Live the Knowing" to the Roman Cavalry Choir. Prove that I'm/we're wrong!

Many of the songs throughout this album seem to be about war and revolution.

Violet Hill being the story of a soldier going off to battle wanting to know if his love loves him in return.

Viva la Vida being the story of a King who no longer holds power and is worried that his actions will cause St. Peter to not allow him into heaven.

Lovers in Japan about soldiers that must soldier on.

Strawberry Swing the character from Violet Hill is assumed to be incapacitated and is brought to by cold water. With the remainder of the song being to his lover.

The use of "Liberty Leading the People" is to represent what many of the album's songs are about; War and Revolution.

The song seems to be autobiographical and it's about Coldplay, or at least Chris Martin specifically.

It's possibly a premonition of a time yet to come when he will look back on this period of his life, when he (and his band) were top dog(s), i.e. "when I ruled the world". He says he knows "St Peter won't call my name", possibly because he has done something, or made a deal with a certain someone from down below, as part of the fame & fortune package (aka "when I ruled the world"), and thus he'll be excluded from eternal life for a reason he is not currently at liberty to explicitly explain. It wouldn't be good PR for a start.

All the stuff about kings, and so on is just a collection of metaphors for this end-of-my-career-and-looking-back theme in the song.

Of course, I hope my interpretation is wrong as I wouldn't like anyone to trade their soul for fame for a time which, compared to eternity, is nothing at all.

Coldplay was actually the name Keane used before they changed it to Cherry Keane, which then became Keane. They rejected the name Coldplay because they thought it was too depressing and the pianist ended up giving it to Chris Martin because he knew him in college.
