The source of this rumor was a tabloid publication, the National Enquirer, in an April 2001 article which claimed that Jay Leno fed Jerry Mathers a grub (other sources said he was fed a worm, some just say a bug) as a part of a stunt modeled after the hit TV show "Survivor," but the stunt supposedly went horribly wrong, putting Mather's life in jeopardy. However, it is worth noting that none of the newspapers or magazines of that time reported that he almost died or was gravely ill, leading me to wonder if the story was hyped or exaggerated (after all, it came from a tabloid). Mather has never claimed Leno almost killed him, nor has the story been reprinted in any credible publications, other than a couple of TV gossip magazines.

Kaufman, unbeknownst to the general public, was a deeply spiritual man and used his performances to highlight various religious customs. He was last photographed in Baltimore in late April 2015.
