Life cycle of computer virus?

How to Remove Malware from Your Computer That moment you've long dreaded has finally come foe Windows computers that had been infected by Malware. It's not the end of the world though and there are some programs that fight for the good guys, help you clean that PC. I'm Seth Rosenblatt for CNET, and today I'll be showing you how to use of helpful programs and to nurse your sick computer back to health. One of the first steps is to ensure that you've actually been infected. If you're seeing system slow downs, make sure that your computer has enough RAM. You're not going anywhere if you try to run Photoshop on one gig of RAM, right? Also, one system cleaning tools like those found in CCleaner. CCleaner is best known for clearing out temporary internet files, cookies and other browsing tracks. But it also can wipe similar system tracks from your hard drive. This include check disk, file fragments, windows logs and cleaning your registry. After CCleaner, reboot your machine before attempting anything else. Now, if you're certain that you've got an infection, breathe deep, remain calm and leave the panicking for other people. First off, run an anti- virus scan. If you don't have one installed, you may have just figured out why you got infected in the first place. Second, see if you can restore your system to a last known clean state without losing any major data. Windows 7 users will find it in the control panel's action center, XP users will find under start, all programs, accessories, system tools and then click system restore. By the way, if you haven't yet made a backup to restore your system from, now is a good time. But what if that doesn't work? Where your last backup just from so long ago but the data loss would be catastrophic? You do have other options. Grab Malwarebytes, this is anti-Malware and run it's deep scan. If the Malware won't let you, try changing name of the Malwarebytes installer to something innocuous to fool it. You can also boot into safe mode by hitting F8 when Windows is loading and run the scan from there. After the scan, follow the instructions for removing any detected threats. If that doesn't to the trick, there are in fact even more options. One is to look through your start menu for any program that you don't recognize and then search for it on the web to see if it's malicious or not. If it's a known threat, search for uninstallation instructions. However, this can be very time consuming. It's more effective to use one of the free scanning tools that's available. Kaspersky offers an excellent one that will help you identify what the infection is and it takes about two hours to complete depending on your system. Symantec, the makers of Norton, have a new downloadable program called Power Eraser which scans and cleans your computer for free. Note that Power Eraser is effective in part because it's extremely aggressive. So be prepared to possibly loose some non-threatening programs. On of the best security tools is Trend Micro HijackThis. It examines vulnerable or suspect parts of your system such as browser helper objects and certain types of registry keys and generates a log of items. If you can't make sense of the logs, you can post them to forums like bleepingcomputer or geekstogo, were more knowledgeable people can take a look. These gentle souls are volunteers though, so don't expect to immediate answers. If all else fails, you may have to do a clean reinstall of your operating system and applications. Microsoft has information on how to do it safely, but keep on mind that it's really a last ditch effort. Also, there are documented effective ways through move even the most obnoxious fake anti-virus program. So it's not a fun process. But getting a Malware infection is a problem that can be fixed. For CNET, I'm Seth Rosenblatt. And remember, don't click on anything I wouldn't click on.

Can you get viruses from Linewire on a PC?

Yeah, LimeWire is dangerous and can give you viruses IF the file you download has a virus in it because the one that sumited the file to Limewire would have a virus in his PC and might not know it, or he/she just wants to give it to other people. And from what I heard, NO virus protection can stop the virus from coming into the computer because you downloaded the file which was the virus. I used Limewire for a long time last year and I never caught a virus, I was aware of the dangers, but I had no other choice but now I have a GOOD source in music and videos. So it's best to not use Limewire. If you want to know just leave me a message on my message board-my name is BiggMikeHarris.

What type of damage can the worm virus do?

(GRAMMAR TROLL ALERT!!): A worm is not a virus, just to clear that misconception up. Almost every casual computer user thinks that anything that can infect your computer is a virus, well their wrong. Trojans aren't viruses, worms aren't viruses, rootkits aren't viruses.

The sole purpose of a worm is to keep replicating itself and then distribute the copies to infect other computers. Worms just keep on copying and copying themselves until your computer grinds its teeth to a halt and eventually crashes. During the time in which your computer is slowing down, a hacker who is viewing the infected computer may enact a Denial of Service Attack or download more malware onto the victim's computer. Worms also have the ability to infect computers that are all connected to the same network as of the infected computer.

Can a computer become virus infected and the installed antivirus program not detect it and if so how can this virus be removed?

Yes, in the hacking world it's called FUD (Fully Undetectable) If the virus is FUD then it simply means that no anti-virus can detect it (however viruses don't stay FUD for long)

Viruses can also disable your anti-virus without you knowing it so that you think the anti-virus is scanning and working properly when it isn't.

You can't delete a virus and you can't take it out when it is in your system. You have to get an adapter and a USB cord so you can run the Anti-Virus on another computer. Note: the internal hard disk is to be brought out and attached to the adapter and the USB cord and have the Anti-Virus run on it from another computer. Hope this helps!

Yes, that's possible. First of all, there is no single antivirus-program, i know of, that will eliminate every virus that has ever been made. Secondly, antivirus-programs are always step behind virusses. That's because there first have to be a virus, before you can develop a method to eliminate it ..... This development is always hours (or even days or weeks) behind ....

However, the change of having a unknown virus is virtually non-existing. If a virus becomes known, there will be a solution for it in (almost) every antivirus-program!

If you think, however, that you have a virus and your antivirus-program can't find anything wrong, then do a additional online virusscan (f.e. with the online virusscanner of Trend Micro: housecall.trendmicro. If you're still declared healthy, but you're still suspisious, surf to one of the many antivirus-forums that are excisting all around the world ..... Or place your question here, at FaqFarm ....... Like you did ;-)) :-))

Good luck, Jahewi :-)

you must be advanced user of PC if you want to delete it manually. like using of folder option that reveals the virus content, killing unknown process using task manager etc....

Can computer games give your computer a virus?

Yes so you better watch out for those viruses on somecomputer games

-------

Probably it depends on what kind of game you want to play. If you want to play a game that you should keep downloading maps or etc from some kind of web sources, it causes some problems on your computer.

But if you buy a game from a shop then you install it and start to play, there is no computer virus.

And be careful about that if you download game from web-source or torrent, then they might have some viruses in them.

another answer::::::::::::::::::::::::

Use a batch file (Example.bat) to change it from to a non hidden and a non read only file. It will convert it to a deletable folder and delete it. Do not delete the Autorun file because I found that the virus changed one of my documents to the autorun.

@Echo off

ATTRIB -S -A -H -R

Pause

Then if no errors come up after running the batch right click on RECYCLER folder and click delete.

Make sure the Batch is in the drive not the subdirectry.

(Example) - DriveLeter>Example.bat

Hope this helps : )

Please note that the following advice if taken will absolve me from any responsibility. I am only reporting what I did to get rid of the virus installed on my hard drive.

1. You should be able to see your root drive root drive which is c: or d: etc.

2. Ensure that you are able to see hidden files by going to Tool>Folder Option>view and checking off hidden files.

3. System Volume Information and Recycler should be visible in your root drive (c: d: or whatever drive you use)

4. Right Click on Recycler folder and go to Properties.

5. Go to the tab labeled Security, If your user name is not there then add your username that you use for XP . Give yourself all security rights as well as the SYSTEM user. Then press okay. If you cannot see the security tab and you are using XP professional then go to Tool>Folder Option>View uncheck box "Use simple File sharing" then select Apply.

6. Right Click on System volume information folder and go to Properties. Repeat step 5.

7. Go to the garbage icon on the desktop and right click. Choose properties then check the box " Do not move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted." Press Apply.

8. Go back to the root drive and delete Recycler folder.

9. Go to the System Information folder and delete the last folder. These folders are where Xp has taken a snapshot of your system in order to restore it. The virus is hiding here in the event that you restore it is also restored.

10. You should now open the registry editor and remove the virus from here so that when you restart the virus is not recreated.

11. Open the registry editor. Start >Run> then type regedit in the box and select OK The registry will now open.

12. Hit Ctrl+F Type Recycler in the search box . Delete the entry when found. press F3 to find the next occurrance of Recycler and delete.

13. Close regedit.

14. Go to all installed harddrives and so steps 2- steps 6, steps 8 and steps 9.

15. Run your virus software. You should be able to update any virus software that was previously unupdatable.

16. Reboot your computer

17. Verify that that the reycler folder is deleted from you root drive.

18. Then you can uncheck the box in the garbage that you checked in step 7. To keep all you deleted files in case you need to restore a file that was accidentally deleted.

My findings: This virus is recreated using the methods of the garbage bin. Everytime you delete a file it recreates itself because it looks in the garbage and restores or copies the virus information inside. If the virus is not able to be stored inside and is immediately removed when you check the box in step 7. Then it cannot recreate itself and all of its power is lost. So erasing it from the registry and drive ensures that it cannot return.

I frequently get this headache and finally heartache sooo annoying it had brought too much trouble for me. After installing various kinds of software, running them and so on, I found some of them useful and some of them not at all effective.

Even if we make changes in folder options to view all the files and change various settings, searching through regedit etc or following by some software, in most conditions a typical average user lands in confusion and finally some disaster happens to his system.

I found this simple system to effectively remove Recycler virus - Blam to Recycler virus.

1. Go to Desktop, right click on Recycle bin and select properties.

2. Check (select or put a tick mark) on the square box (Do not move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted)

3. Get File zilla FTP which is free and install. (you dont need to change any file settings)

4. without entering any sort of web address anywhere click the directories in the Local site box.

5. Then each directory will display all the folders below this box with file name, file size, file type and last modified.

6. Now check if RECYCLER folder is there. Then simply delete it.

7. Your job is done.

8. Repeat in all the folders by searching if it is sub folders too.

9. Repeat for each directory ( C D E F ...)

After your job is done again go to desktop, right click on recycle bin and then deselect on the square box.
