When was the decision made to store years in computers as a 2 digit code?
Back in the 1960s and 1970s. Computer space was much more expensive back then. Today we can store huge amounts of data on small devices using microprocessors, but in those days they had to use vacuum tubes. Computers filled whole rooms and still only held a fraction of the data you can store on your iPod. Two-digit years ("69" for 1969, for example) were used to save space and money.
1438.3 megabytes equals how many gigabytes?
Answer: 0.938 gigabytes
1,000 megabyte (MB) = 1 gigabyte (GB), so you divide 938 megabytes by 1000 and you'll get 0.938 gigabytes.
What are other safety precautions that you can apply when working a computer?
A good start is to download the HSE document -"Working with VDUs" available at http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg36.pdf. This identifies most of the physical ergonomics issues associated with working with computers. The stress and frustration of dealing with badly designed software or web-pages is a different matter.
Why do you digitize information to use on a computer?
Reasons for digitizing information can involve improvements in the quality and longevity of the data, as well as speed and ease of retrieval and manipulation.
Digital data, in most cases, will remain in better condition for longer, when compared with analogue data. However, the eventual degradation of digital data will be less predictable and more difficult to reverse.
When dealing with photos or sounds, editing and arranging can be much easier when using a computer, because of the speed at which the computer can do the processing, and the digital tools and effects that can be used.
There is still a place for analogue storage on paper etc at the moment, but digitization and digital storage is becoming more common all the time.
What are network computer systems?
Usually "network computer" refers to a computer whose primary function is to access the network and can't do much else on its own. Sometimes it is a dumb terminal with no processing power of its own, but more often it does have processing capabilities, but still less than a personal or business computer.
Network computers rarely exist outside large corporate networks, where they are generally assigned to very low-level employees with minimal computing needs.

About 250 if each song is four minutes long. There is no exact answer, because every song is different. Every aspect of a song, down to it's recording can affect it's size. The average song is about 3.5MB on disk. If you were to divide that average in to 1000MB (1GB), the answer you would get would be 285.

Why my computer's speed is slow?
Computers are not perfect. From the moment one is turned on it can began to build "crud", that is useless materials. It can also make mistakes. For most everything ones does on the computer, the computer generates "temporary" files that it alone uses. This is a standard occurance when on the internet. Much of this does not voluntarily go away. If one is on the "net" doing anything, searching, downloading, etc, temp. files are made. Further, many websites download cookies, spyware and various materials that remain on the computer though one leaves the site. A history trail is created of the site and remains. Very importantly the "register" can be added to and changes made that aids others, information gathering and such. And no, they do not ask, or have to. The registry is a critical area and must be kept clean. There are numerous sites for freeware where necessary cleaners can be obtained. There are spyware and spybot removers, registry cleaners, history removers, adware removers, disk cleaners(to clear unneeded junk) and so forth. There are some excellent programs with all in one utilities. Experience has shown that more than one of these programs should be used as one program will pick up on things the other may have missed. Giveaway of the day gives a new program every day. Ask a search engine for "freeware", many sites exist, then go to utilities and searh for these programs. Also go to a freeware site and ask the site to search for "Cleaners', fixers, etc. The more crud on the computer, the more the computer must deal through to do what one asks of it. If it gets too bad, one may have to backup any additional programs desired and reboot the entire system if one has reboot discs.
Pctools makes Spyware Doctor and for another 10 bucks you can put anti-virus with it. I have used dang near every free tool available and NOTHING compares to a paid version of this stuff . it will catch a Trojan faster than any anti-virus I have ever used and I have used the paid version of about 5. My brother in law as using a top rated anti-virus and a popular paid anti-spyware plus 2 free versions. I ran this and found 487 pieces of spyware/adware on it ;same for another person but found 667 ; when this high degree if crap infects your system it WILL ruin your operating system .If you do use the anti-virus version you must remove the old one use add /delete programs then do a search on (ex, norton removal tool) the manufacture should have a tool available , if you do not you WILL have problems!! also Crap Cleaner is a good free/donation tool , and pctools has a regristry mechanic that will find an stagering amount of crud in registry (buy it as a combo for a reduced rate) and do keep up updates on the pctools and Windowz current . I checked a guys system about 2 years ago and his def. were 18 months old! Spyware is a very aggressive problem.

What does it mean to reformat a computer?
Actually we usually speak of reformatting the hard driveon the computer. The computer's hard drive is the internal drive that has no removable media. On it will be stored the operating system (such as Windows or Unix), most of the applications (programs) you use, plus all kinds of data files. A hard drive is a disk (or set of disks) with a magnetizable coating on which a recording head can write information. Each kind of computer and operating system has its own way of formatting that information, but they all write in concentric circles, grouping the information into smaller blocks or sectors. Before data can be stored on a hard drive (or any magnetic disk, actually), it must be formatted. This process magnetically creates the writeable areas on the disk. To reformat the disk means to recreate these areas, refreshing the disk to a new state. A full format permanently erases everything on the disk as part of the process. A "quick format" may be available, which will not bother to erase everything but will just mark everything as erased, with pretty much the same result. (Custom programs may be able to recover some erased information, but only if it has not yet been overwritten.) Generally, when you reformat a hard drive--at least, the primary drive on the computer--you want to make it bootable, installing on it the components of the operating system that allow you to run your computer.
