Counseling means to give or receive advice and guidance involving life issues. There are many different types of counseling. Sometimes a person will seek counseling, and other times they will be ordered to take it. Counseling can involve mental health, money, legal issues, or life direction. What is the most important characteristic for the effectiveness of a counseling theorist?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

For me, it's virtually impossible to just name one important characteristic. I think there are several that need to be combined to be a really good, effective counselor. For instance, a counselor should be a person who is totally committed to their client. They listen and they empathize. They have the ability to see beyond the spoken word and connect what is really happening in their client's life through unspoken words. They teach their client to become a problem solver himself. A great counselor basically works himself out of a job.

Can you receive a negative counseling if you have never gotten a monthly counseling in the army?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, if you do something wrong you should receive a negative counseling statement even if you have never been counseled. It is the responsibility of the Non-commissioned Officers to counsel their Soldiers when they arrive to the unit and on a monthly basis, if your NCO is not doing this then he is not doing his job. Remember a counseling statement is just a form of communication between the leader and his subordinate and should be used to let you know how you are doing with regard to your overall performance both Good and Bad so don't sweat a negative counseling too much just take it as a warning and get squared away. What is conjoint marital counseling?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Marital counseling is counseling which is focused on the marriage. The difference between this and individual counseling would generally be that both spouses are present, and that the counselor is on "the side of the relationship".

Both partners will tend to have parts in co-creating the marriage (making it unhappy as well as making it happier).

The job, then, of the marital counselor, is to advocate for all change that is positive to the relationship, and not to "take a side" between the couple.
