To cast on stitches in knitting, make a slip knot, insert the needle into the loop, and tighten the knot on the needle. Then, wrap the yarn around the needle and pull a loop through the stitch on the needle. Repeat this process until you have the desired number of stitches on your needle.
A picot is a little 'bump' on a chain. It's usually made with a single crochet, but you could do it with a double crochet as well. You do it in a chain. Here is an example of one:chain 3, dc in 2nd ch from hook, ch 1.
The individual pattern will specify the number of chains to work on either side.
"Wrong Side," or back, or private side or inside. The opposite of the side you want people to view of the finished garment (which is called right side or RS).
Moss Stitch (or Seed Stitch) can be worked over either an odd or even number of stithes and you simply repeat the same two stitches to achieve the look.
If working over an odd number of stitches:
Knit 1 stitch, Purl 1 stitch and repeat this across the row for every row
This will create a "broken rib".
If working over even stitches however you must alternate the rows to achieve the same look.
Row 1: Knit 1 Stitch, Purl 1 Stitch across the row
Row 2: Purl 1 Stitch, Knit 1 Stitch across the row
You will repeat these two rows in order to get the same look as if you were working on an off number of stitches.
1 meter = 100 cm
cm*cm = 100*100=10000
gsm=10000/length mts*width mts*weight kgs
All units are at denominator??
Cut a piece of 100 sq cms area & weigh it gms & multiply with 100 :-)
If you are alternating rows (knit one row, purl one row), the purl row is typically a "wrong-side" row. If it is a pattern stitch, it should state somewhere in the pattern what is the front and what is the back. The back is the "wrong-side"

Corespun yarns are generally made of a continuous polyester fibre with what are referred to as "staple fibres" such as cotton or hemp wrapped around, and often finished with a gloss coating. Combined we end up with a very strong thread, with an interesting property: when it gets wet, the sheath expands, and if used in stitching, fills the stitch holes creating a waterproof seal. This is especially useful in shoes and boots, greatcoats, jackets, tents, weatherproof covers and sails. This does not impact on the strength of the thread because that is all in the polyester core.
There's another important property of such threads: during the textile manufacturing process, these threads pass through the sewing machine needles at very high speed. This would be enough to cause sufficient friction to melt the core (and jam the machine), but as it is insulated by the cotton sheath, melting is prevented.
There are many different places online to buy a knitted hat. First the customer needs to decide if they want to go to a commercial store or buy something homemade. If a person would like something homemade then etsy is the website to go to. If a person would like commercial almost any clothing store will do, but especially the outdoor stores will have them. For example, Lands End or Eddie Bauer.
The history of spinning contains many improvements. You are probably referring to the spinning wheel and its advantage over a simple distaff.
You can knit loads of things! Scarves, mittens, socks, jumpers, blankets, or just anything you can think of. You can also knit with different colours, different stitches and styles and with different decorations. Knitting is fun as well as relaxing, and is useful too because you can make things for yourself, and be proud to say that you made them.
If it's a bulky yarn then you should use hook size H and up. If it's thinner then stick to the smaller size hooks. If your hook is too small then the yarn will not fit on the hook and it may snag on the hook as your working.
Hi, I wondered whether you can help me, I have had a Kitchen Granny Pattern, and have made quite a few of them, now I have been asked by a couple of people if I could make them one.Unfortunately, when I went to Watford to get the accessory's i.e:- Granny's head hands porcelain tea set plus the little packets & tins that go into her pockets they no longer do it. I would be grateful if you can let me know if they are still available, I still have the pattern but of course it will be no good without the other accessorys. Perhaps you can let me know if there is a suppleir in U.K. or I can purchase them from you. Await your response- e-mail maureenian@sky.comRegards Maureen
The simple answer is yes, how well depends on a lot of factors, for example wool felt will stick to wool felt better than to acrylic "craft felt" will to acrylic, because it has more of a loop quality, (think of the loops on Velcro)
You want to try and match the felt types you want to stick together for best results. For example I wouldn't try acrylic with wool, I would use acrylic with acrylic and so on... Also very large or heavy felt pieces won't stick as well as thin, light ones. I
f you are making a piece you are putting a lot of effort into or you want to hold up well to wear and tear I would recommend wool felt if that's too costly I would use a wool blend felt. Hope this helps.

Traditionally, a nostapinne was used to wind yarn into balls, and many still use it today. However, the most common tools used today are a ball winder and swift which are used to wind hanks into balls or cakes.
It is a form of knitting using broomsticks as needles. In modern times the broomsticks are replaced by oversized knitting needles. The method is most common in making afghans and lace where large loopy stitches are desired.
Although the tool used does resemble a knitting needle, I classify broomstick lace in crochet. However, I think it is really a blend of the two. You begin by making a row of chain stitches, but the loops are kept on the hook like in knitting, but then are worked off with a crochet hook. You can find videos demonstrating the method at YouTube and also web sites with instructions that show pictures.
I like to use the #50 needle, but broomstick lace can be worked with smaller needles as well.
slip 1 - insert needle into stitch as normal then just pull it off the left needle onto the right without knitting or purling it
