it is where they take brooms on ice with a flat disk and have one guy throw it and The basic object of curling is to place your stone closest to the center of the 12 foot circular target area (the House).

Each team has four players.

A throwers teammates may use brooms or brushes to direct the stone's path. Brushing the ice creates a thin film of water that allows the stone to move more easily.

There are ten ends (much like innings in baseball.)

In each end teams alternate shots until sixteen stones have been thrown (actually, stone slide, they are not literally thrown)

Players throw two of their team's stones then change position, with the best player typically throwing last

Teams get one point for each stone they place closer to the center than the opponents closest stone to the center. Only one team can score per end.

The team who throws the last stone in an end (the Hammer) has a tactical advantage. If Team A scores in an end Team B will have the Hammer in the next end.

Teams with the hammer try to get at least 2 points, teams without the hammer try to limit the other team to 1 point if they cannot score themselves.

If no stones are inside the House at the conclusion of the end no points are scored and the team with the hammer retains it in the next end

Strategy in curling is just as important as successfully making shots. By the nature of the game, there are tons of different scenarios you can get yourself into, and knowing the best thing to do in any scenario takes years of experience.

Maybe about 8 feet. It depends on how good at sweeping your sweepers are (how much pressure they can put on the ice, how well they can keep up fast strokes all the way down the ice, etc), and also the ice conditions.

The most widely-held view is that the Scottish invented curling, so most people would say the Scottish invented the curling rock. Modern curling rocks are much more consistent in terms of shape and weight, but they all come from the same special granite quarry in Scotland.

The skip is essentially the captain of a curling team. I don't know where the name actually comes from, but it helps signify the different role that the skip has, spending his time at the opposite end of the ice and calling the shots.

It is just like a bye in any other sport. To create a 'standard' tournament without a bye you need a specific number of teams (think 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64...). When there is any other number of teams the chart or draw won't be able to "branch off" equally, resulting in some teams playing fewer games than others. When a team advances without having to play another team it is considered a 'bye'.

Sometimes it is called a "brush" (by Canadians more so than Americans). Most curling brooms used to be made of animal hair bristles (and straw before that), but now they are almost exclusively made of a nylon fabric stretched over a foam pad. So, neither "broom" or "brush" is technically very applicable anymore.

Curling is an Olympic sport with four players on each team where players slide heavy granite stones. The term throwing your hammer in curling means having the last shot at the end.

The target area is called the "house." Any rock that touches a portion of the house can score. The very center point of the house is called the "tee." The circular area around the pin (usually white) is called the "button." The inner ring is called the "4-foot" ring (because it is 4 feet in diameter). The middle ring is the "8-foot," and the outer ring is the "12-foot."

Curling stones are made by a company called Kays of Scotland, which is located in southwest Scotland. The granite that the company uses to make the stones is mined from Ailsa Craig, a small island off the west coast of Scotland.

Curling stones are also made in Canada by Canadian Curling Stone Co., which uses granite from Trefor quarry in Wales, U.K.

(number of wins) / (total number of games) = winning percentage. It is typically represented by three decimal places.

For example, if a team is 8-3, they have 8 wins in 11 (8+3) games. 8 / 11 = .727

Set it up to play 3 times against all the other teams in the league and have 7 position rounds scattered throughout saving a position round for the last night to add excitement. The easiest way is to get an ABC chart and follow their schedule.

"Curling shoes," one with a slippery Teflon slider built into the sole and the other with just grippy rubber on the bottom, are used to allow players to slide smoothly down the ice during their delivery (sliding) of the curling rock.

"Curling brooms" or "curling brushes" are used to "sweep" the ice in front of the rock, decreasing the friction between the rock and the ice and making the rock go both farther, and curl (curve) less if so desired. Brooms are also used by most players during their delivery for balance.

Many teams will use stop watches to time a rock between certain points on the ice, to get an idea of how fast the rock is moving.

Start at the root of your hair and the base of the curling stick wrap hair around stick till you reach the end hold for a few seconds and slip the stick off I find it easier and I like the curls more when I twist the section of hair I'm doing a little before and as I curl it around the stick. If you find your hair isn't curling try using smaller sections and add some product like hair spray before curling A word for the wise be very careful when using the curling stick it's really easy to burn yourself

You score by having the closest stone to the center of the scoring area (the "house") at the end of each round ("end"). You score a point for every stone that is closer to the center than your opponent's closest. So, the maximum number of points you can score in one end is 8, if all of your rocks are inside or touching the house, and your opponent doesn't have any rocks closer than any of yours. A typical score is 1 to 3 points. 4 or more is considered a "big end."

Technically, there are no professional curlers. Curlers all have other jobs. Revenue Canada considered taxing the winnings of curlers, but soon came to the conclusion that if curlers who participated in the same bonspiels and won little or nothing were to claim lodging, meals, and associated expenses as tax deductions, that the deductions would far exceed any revenue collected from those who made significant amounts.
