At what height should a painting or artwork to be hung on a high ceiling wall?

The height artwork is placed on the wall is determined more by the use of the room and the people who frequent it than by the size of the wall.

In most rooms the artwork should be hung at approximately eye level (for were you are most likely to be viewing it - standing, sitting, reclining).

If for example you are hanging artwork in an entrance area or hallway, the paintings should be higher (because you will be viewing them standing) than if you are hanging them in a dinning area or living room (where you spend most of your time seated).

In stairways the artwork should be hung in a progressively elevated manner (like the stairs). This gives the viewer more comfort and ease of viewing.

If you are doing a large display of many different sized paintings it is best to pick one or two "anchor" pieces and hang them at the optimum height, then make a pleasing grouping with the other pieces at varying heights to keep the viewer's eye moving through out the display.

There are some people who like to hang one or a small grouping of paintings over the sofa in the living room, and this works well as long as they are not hung so high as to make your neck ache to look at them, nor so low, they are easily bumped by the heads or arms of people sitting on the sofa.

Single pieces hung over mantles should have ample room beneath them so that items set on the mantle do not obstruct the subject of the painting.

In bedrooms, many people hang artwork over the head of their beds, the height of the headboard will determine the placement of the artwork... however if the headboard is especially tal you may want to choose a longish horizontal piece of a collection on smaller pieces that can be arranged in a horizontal manner.

One of my favourite placement for a painting was in my grandmother's bedroom, she had a small petite-point piece in an ornate frame hung at shoulder level (when seated) next to her favourite reading chair. I have often borrowed that placement when trying to create a "personal space".

Do the colors orange pink and purple go well with each other?

Orange, pink, and purple is a rather unusual combination of colors. Whether or not they go together really depends on the shade.

Purple and pink are seen together quite often, and provided the shade of purple is more of a true purple, and the pink is a lighter pink, they will look fine together. Pink and orange will clash sometimes, but a light colored pink will look good with a neon orange color. Orange and purple are not typically seen together, but there is nothing wrong with mixing the colors together.

So, provided you use a true shade of purple, a light shade of pink, and a neon orange, those colors will go good with each other.

Does a bluish grey living room match a dim yellow kitchen?

It can. Burt be careful of the "bluish" part of the grey. It might make the room look "bedroomy." Better to have a grey that goes more to taupe - which is an excellent color to compliment soft yellow.

Do the curtains match the drapes?

If the curtains and the drape are in the same colours, or contains the same patterns - yes, they match.

You have pink walls and want to paint something to dress it up what should you do?

Colour is powerful. Colour can lift our mood so selecting the right shade of a colour for a room is vital. Pastel pink is trending this year. If you are creating a soft look dried flowers are so beautiful in any room. For a bed room you could use a duck egg blue chair against a light pink wall. If you want to make bold features you could do it by adding bold tones in bright colour textiles, cushions or rugs. Over sized flower arrangements can also add decadence next to strong bold curtains etc and can dress up a room.

How do you make a candle stay in its holder straight?

The oldest and easiest way I know of is to light the candle and let the wax drip into the bottom of the holder and then set the candle in a straight position into the warm wax. You can also use floral clay or any similar material in place of the wax.

How are veins applied in marbling and graining?

A large feather is best, but fine longer haired brushes also work. To make good lines it is best to slowly roll your veining tool between your fingers as you jerk and wiggle your arm across the surface. I often look away for a couple inches so that the lines don't look too controlled.

How much does it cost to install new floors in apartment complex?

Now that's a loaded question !! It would depend on a lot of things. What type of flooring do you have now and what type are you putting in, will there be a lot of prep work to do, or is it a new building? Are there a lot of jogs or angles to deal with? You would be far better off to phone a few flooring companies, have them look at the site and get some free estimates.

What are rd dimensions of a toilet?

Every manufacturer makes many different models and all of them are different dimensions, no standard dimension. I would go to Home Depot or Lowes website & pick one I like & they will have the specs on there so you would know.

Is lite gray a good color to paint a beauty salon interior?

Sure. I've painted beauty salons in every colour you can imagine. The key to making it work is how you accessorize. Gray is good because it's neutral and allows you to choose accessories that create any atmosphere you want. Modern, contemporary, kitsch, funky, classical, folksy.. I suggest that you look closely at the Gray swatches as Gray comes in many tones, from cool to warm. Think of the theme you want. Imagine the colour of that theme if you were to paint a full strength colour. Then add that colour to the Gray. So if you wanted a light and airy Gray add turquoise, warm and sunny add a sunshine yellow, cold and modern add silver. Also it's not a bad idea to make sure skin tones look good beside the colour. Hold it to beside your face in a mirror, if your skin doesn't look great beside it, choose another colour.

If I paint a feature wall in my living room do I paint the same wall in the through dining room?

If the two walls are of a continuous piece, it is easiest to continue the colour throughout, however if the walls are divided, say by an archway or some other architectural feature then you are into personal taste area.

I personally prefer to use a feature wall colour in a place where it does not extend into another room. That may be because I have a preference for saturated colours and too much of them can be hard for some people to live with.

Most recently I painted a client's living room - dining room with a light blue-grey, the two rooms were divided by an archway with french doors in it, so on the dining room side I painted the archway wall a deep saturated sapphire blue. It compliment her dinning room artwork, linens and dishes. Then I painted the living room side of the archway wall in a medium, darkish grey (the same as the other walls but four steps darker on the colour chart), to pick up the colours in her carpet and upholstered furniture. You can't see the dark colours from the other room, but both are enhanced by the technique.

Do polished chrome and polished nickel match?

Not well. Nickel has a different color than chrome. It is not a "true" silver. Also every manufacturer has a different shade of nickel so you can struggle to even match nickel between product lines. Stay with one or the other. Chrome is certainly less expensive and still looks great.

What color should you paint your bathroom?

Orange, for me orange colors in a small bathroom make it look bigger

Additional Information

I know the above sounds a bit wild, but I have painted bathrooms (and other rooms) for clients for years.

A bathroom is one of the few rooms you can in fact go "a little over the top" with.

Think about it, how long does anyone really spend in a bathroom?

A bright and vibrant colour can make you smile, or if it happens to be your favourite colour it can lift you mood.

A dark colour, even black (with plenty of accessories in white or grey and splashes of a bright colour) can be very elegant.

This is the one room you CAN do something outrageous in.

My only proviso here is, if the bathroom is an ensuite, and the lady of the house does her make-up in it, pick a colour that when it reflects on the skin does not make her look "odd."

That or provide a desperate make-up area with good lighting and neutral colours.
