I want to paint my walls black and splatter neon colors but my mom wont let me. so instead we agreed i can sponge my walls in different neon colors. would this look good or did i agree to a ugly room?

Properly done it could be awesome.

use a white base colour on the wall and allow it to dry completely.

Mix your neon colours with faux finishing compound and a bit of water and pour them into flat containers, I like paint trays, but you could use margarine tubs or plastic plates.

You will need help doing this and I recommend you practice on a scrap of drywall to be sure of the look.

Use a damp sponge in each colour, dab it in the paint and dab it off on a paper towel. Start pouncing the paint onto the wall. not too much of each colour at first, remember you can always add more, it's tough to take it away.

Work carefully into your corners and small spaces until yo have the effect you like.

Then just let it dry. If you still want the black in your room, add pillows, wall art (frames in black) and other accessories in black. You might even want to consider black furniture.

How do you hang a pot rack from a plaster ceiling?

Plaster ceilings are difficult as the plaster was applied to a series of small wooden slats that were attached to your studs. A stud finder is of no use here. My suggestion is to try and measure from the ceiling light fixture if one exists as it should be attached to a stud. The standard distance for ceiling studs is 16" apart. Use the back of a screwdriver to tap and notice the change in sound to determine if a stud is located there. You will probably need longer screws because you will be adding another 1/4" to your calculation. Most pot racks come with instructions for installation and if any further problems arise then talk to your local hardware store.

How and what color should you paint interior shutters?

When choosing window treatments for your new home or renovation project, it's often difficult to determine what color your pieces should be. Should they be a neutral addition to the room, or pack a punch of color? I think it's safe to say that curtains and shades are openly accepted and appreciated in a variety of colors. For the purpose of the article, let's make things a little more difficult and talk about how to determine what color your shutters should be.

The first thing to consider is whether your shutters will be on the interior or exterior of your home.

First of all, let's get one thing straight: shutters are not restricted only to the outside of your house. It's a common misconception that shutters are only exterior decorations, but in fact, shutters are currently used inside just as often, if not more often, than outside. Whether you decide to place your shutters on the inside or out, they can still serve their principal purpose, which is to help keep the sun from heating up your house on a hot day, or bring in light and warmth on a cold one.

If your shutters are going to be on the exterior of your house, you'll definitely want to put a great amount of thought into the materials you'll be using so that you know they are durable and will be able to withstand the elements. Once you've thought about materials, you may way to consult your manufacturer about any limitations the material might have on your color choices. Remember, lighter colors are less forgiving when it comes to wear and tear, but also don't attract as much heat as a darker shade.

Shutters going on the inside? This is when you need to start making the decision about whether you'd like your window treatments to be statement pieces or to neutrally support the decorative themes already present in your home. Start by looking around the room where your shutters are being installed. If there's already a lot of big eye-catchers in the room, you may want to opt for something more neutral. If everything blends together, you might want to play up a little more color.

If you think your room might need a little more drama, consider whether any colors stick out as primary or accent colors. If you already have one color that's well represented, pick another color that works well within the room (perhaps it's already present in smaller amounts), and use your window treatments to play up that accent color. Think about the mood you want to convey in the room: dark, rich colors convey romance, brighter blues and greens can have a playful effect, and pastels help to sooth and relax your guests.

If you're still struggling with which route to take, you can also consider different rooms in your house as a good place to start. Try to find balance (not every room in your house should showcase neon-colored drapes) while also continuing themes (neon-colored drapes in one room and modern, structured furniture in the next makes a seamless transition). You might also consider the region you live in, or a culture you celebrate, as a basis for a color palette.

Whatever you do, don't be limited by a window treatment company that doesn't provide a variety of options. There are many ways to make your window coverings unique. Some companies specialize in patterns, engraving, or even stained glass as embellishments, so make sure you research your options and take time to consider your desired effect before making a purchase.

What wall color should you paint your bathroom if your bathtub is olive green and the tile is a light yellow?

I would do white for a very clean, fresh look. I would add in some black accents or accessories to balance it out. It will look great!

Make sure the fixtures are not too dated, or it will all look a little tired.

Think chic, classic London or NYC vintage apartment.

How do you get the square footage of a odd shaped room?

You divide it up into regular shapes: rectangles, triangles, semicircles. Then use the formulae for these shapes and add the results together.

If you cannot do that - because the shape is just too irregular, draw a scaled version of the shape on a board of uniform thickness. Cut the shape out and find its mass (or weight). Also, draw a square foot on the board to the same scale and get its mass. The square footage of the room is the ratio of the masses (or weights).

You could also draw a scaled version of the room on a grid representing a unit area. Count the number of squares that are at least half inside the sketched room. Ignore all squares that are less than half inside. The number of squares inside multiplied by the square footage of each square will give the approximate area of the room. The finer the grid, the more accurate the result (but it will also be harder work).

What color compliments gold bedding?

Black is a good colour to compliment gold. Alternatively, for something a bit different, try blue.

Any and all shades of brown will work well, I would suggest a dark brown (chocolate).

Greens also look great with gold.

Many Eastern decorating schemes use pinks and oranges with gold to wonderful effect.

What is the Square footage of a 9.4 feet room?

Square footage requires two measures of a rectangular room. There is only one measure given.

How are lines used in decorating?

In decorating, lines are used in many ways. Lines guide the eye to focal points. Lines are also used to create designs within a space. Another way lines are used is to give the appearance of a higher ceiling or longer room depending on whether the lines are vertical or horizontal.

What color do you select for your kitchen cabinet with the yellow color tiles around?

Several factors influence cabinetry color such as the floor color, window and door trim and "adjacency" - which means that the selections made for the kitchen need to be compatible with and provide a pleasing "flow" to adjacent rooms. White cabinetry always looks fresh and clean. Having the upper cabinets white and painting the base cabinets black is also a very good look. With a few exceptions, painting the cabinets any other colors runs the risk of looking cheap or "home made". If the cabinets can be stained, Using a deep cherry stain will look very rich with the yellow. Lighter stains like honey oak will do nothing to compliment the tile.

Your house yellow your shutters are green what color should the doors be?

If all of your trim, including the shutters are green, you can:

1) pick a different shade of the green, to keep the colour scheme.

2) use a different shade of the yellow, also to keep the colour scheme going.

3) pick a white, which goes with very nearly everything.

4) paint it blue, it will look nice and still stand out as different

5) if the house is paid for, you could go with the old tradition of painting the door red, in celebration.
