How does the digestive system work with the respritory system?

I'm only answering based on what I know, so bear with me.

The digestion system takes energy from food and that energy is used for respiration (the lungs must move to work). But, energy can not be stored, used, or transported without oxygen in the form of O2, which is obtained by inhale. The oxygen is then transported to blood cells which transport the oxygen to the rest of the body, including digestive organs. Carbon is taken out of the food we eat, somehow used as energy and then combined with oxygen in the form of CO2 and exhaled. If you want more info you should research ATP and the respiration process.
